Clinton's loose-lipped reference to assassination raises the danger of someone's targeting Obama
Obama will be greeted by an unprecedented amount of security. The ceremony will be closed to the public, and guests will have to go through metal detectors.

One presidential historian thinks Clinton's loose-lipped reference to assassination raises the danger of someone's targeting Obama.

"Everybody, in the back of their minds, has been thinking of this, that Senator Obama could be in danger," said Rick Shenkman, a professor at George Mason University in Virginia.

"Now it's out there. It only takes one psycho."

In a radio interview yesterday in Puerto Rico, Obama said that he had accepted the apology Clinton issued Friday and that her comment about RFK was just "careless."

12. I recall the meetng, though I'm not sure he has a SS detail as of yet. He might though.
I know they said if he becomes President he has no choice and has to have the SS with him.

24. He does not make that choice. He gets it no matter what his wishes.
It's not elective any more.

The last White House official or final aspirant not to have SS protection was Eleanor Roosevelt, and, once she found out about The Bomb, security for her was tightened.

10. It was always there for the racist crazies to act on, but now it is there
for some Hillary crazy too.

And of course not all Hillary supporters are crazy, but I bet there is at least 1 Hillary psycho out there.

23. IF there was any "dog-whistle", it was "sent out" at least 16 months ago by Michelle Obama . . .
Edited on Sun May-25-08 02:13 PM by Petrushka
. . . when she replied to a question by Steve Kroft on CBS's February 11, 2007 60 Minutes program:

Steve Kroft: This is a tough question to ask, but a number of years ago, Colin Powell was thinking about running for president, and his wife, Alma, really did not want him to run.

Michelle Obama: Mm-hmm.

Steve Kroft: She was worried about some angry person with a gun.

Michelle Obama: Mm-hmm.

Steve Kroff: Is that something that you think about?

Michelle Obama: I don't lose sleep over it, because the realities are that, as a black man, you know, Barack can get shot going to the gas station, you know. So, you know, you can't---you know, you can't make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen. We just weren't raised that way.

28. She was specifically asked about being "worried about some angry person with a gun".
It's not like she fucking invoked assassination out of the fucking blue.

You don't really understand "dog-whistle" do you?

3. At this point I question the value of DU'ers continuing to post threads with the word in the title
Frankly, Obama supporters need to get a fucking grip and ask themselves why they need to continue feeding the thought-form with energy.

Is it REALLY outrage or now using it to beat Hillary?

Be honest.

14. Yes, but the question was if it was genuine outrage or something to bash Hillary over the head with.
And I answered honestly.

Its just some idiots on this board don't understand why Hillary screwed up and neither does she. That is what makes me mad.

don't you think?

If you're an Obama supporter, is it really wise to INSIST on using the word over and over and over again?

I don't mean to make lite of this issue, but in all fairness, Shrub is hated by a lot more people all over the World than any of the candidates are.

But verbalizing our worst fear like that, especially as justification for staying in the race was tasteless, really. I thought she was better than that. Obama does evoke memories of some of our great leaders; Lincoln, MLK, JKF and RFK, and we know what happened to them. Don't fucking use that as an excuse for staying in the race when there are at least a dozen better ones.

See Reply #23 upthread.

IF Senator Obama believes Senator Clinton's "...comment about RFK was just 'careless'.", did he/does he/should he consider his wife's comment(s) to also be "...just 'careless'."?
