"You get careless" ABC article quotes Obama
Edited on Sat May-24-08 03:39 PM by mamalone
This ABC article quotes Obama as saying..

""I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make and I think that is what happened here,""

in response to a question regarding Hillary's comments referencing RFK's assassination.

All I can say is, he's a better man than I, not that I'm a man or anything.

He gains nothing from the pile on. He has to treat her with respect.

However, I sure would love to have been a fly on the wall when Michelle Obama heard about her comments.

6. He's such a sexist!
He's just trying to prove that he's a better man than Hillary by not sinking down to her level and using a stupid comment to gain votes from the lowest common denominator voters! See, even the saying "better man" is sexist!

If he really believed in equality he would have attacked her for three weeks and then suggested that some people won't vote for him because he's a man!!!

51. Look, he's given Hillary a conciliatory pass here, and unlike her, he
didn't take advantage of a "gaffe". Can you not extend that same courtesy to Obama? Didn't he apologize for the "sweetie" reference? The cleaning lady at my office calls me "sweetie" everyday, but it doesn't offend me, because I know she doesn't mean any harm.

Could you perhaps find something else to be "poutraged" about?:eyes:

what if Hillary had stepped in and said that the assault on Reverend Wright was a gutless attack. Everyone of us would have fallen in love with her again and we would all be agreeing to her being on the ticket.

27. This picture was taken on a positively idyllic day...
Several families got together and took the kids sledding. The sun was bright, the snow crisp and fresh, we stayed for hours and hours until the sun went down and we all staggered to our cars exhausted. I had homemade chicken soup simmering in the crockpot for dinner... I think that was one of the best meals I've ever eaten.

me love snow too:)

50. Even if we assume that she did nothing
intentionally wrong it doesn't follow that this whole brouhaha is "nothing." Many of us had a deep emotional response to her imagery. Even though you personally didn't have a similar response it doesn't negate our pain. When my kids cause another person hurt, I require them to apologize and make amends... humility and grace are important interpersonal skills.

FWIW, the way that I read Obama's words here, he is coming pretty close to saying that "she did nothing wrong." I don't see how anyone in Clinton's camp can possibly spin this in a negative way, especially after how she has handled similar situations that were within her control.

then why did Hillary not respond similarly when she was in a similar position? I think his choice to deescalate the situation shows his wisdom and character. It certainly contrasts sharply with her choice to escalate such situations as "bittergate."
