Alan Keyes in a NUTshell....
This is a perfect summation of Keyes and his "beliefs". Note that this works for ALL the RW nutcases too:

"Here is a handy way to view the holy trinity of issues -- school prayer, anti-abortion, anti-gay rights -- nearest the heart of Republican Senate candidate Alan Keyes: All are about forcing his religious views on others.

Nothing prevents students from praying in school. What Alan Keyes wants is to require your school children be exposed to his prayers. Nothing prevents anyone from refusing to have an abortion based on personal faith. What Alan Keyes wants is to deny you the ability to make that choice based on his faith. Nothing prevents people from denying their own homosexuality based on deeply held religious principles. What Alan Keyes wants is to deny gays basic protections of civil society based on his religious dogma.

It's bad enough we must endure Keyes' inquisition until November. And that his facile, intellectually dishonest manner will give Democratic opponent Barack Obama some tough moments. But the worst thing is that, instead of discussing the real issues we face -- terrorism, Iraq, health care, the economy -- we instead must debate how many angels Alan Keyes thinks should be allowed to dance on the head of a pin."

1. That's a very good summary
and good point about where he'll take the debate.

I think it's rather funny the GOP dredged him up for this particular race, anyway. I'm sure they'll dump him back in Gaithersburg again when it's over.

21. I rewrote this, slightly............
The holy trinity of issues -- school prayer, anti-abortion, anti-gay rights -- nearest the heart of every Republica.:

All are about forcing their religious views on others.

Nothing prevents students from praying in school. What Republicans want is to require your school children be exposed to THEIR prayers.

Nothing prevents anyone from refusing to have an abortion based on personal faith. What Republicans want is to deny you the ability to make that choice based on THEIR faith.

Nothing prevents people from denying their own homosexuality based on deeply held religious principles. What Republicans want is to deny gays basic protections of civil society based on THEIR religious dogma.

3. Kick for the great points
Nobody denies your right to pray in school.

Nobody denies your right to not have an abortion.

Nobody denies your right to be a self-hating homosexual.

Just don't force those "rights" onto me, and we'll get along fine.

5. No offense but Fuk Alan Keyes
This guy has no chance against Obama. I'm amazed by how much time DU'ers have spent on this guy. Thread after thread on this chump

6. Well, in Illinois it's pretty big news.
While I'm sure 99.9% of DUers agree that he has no chance, I'm also sure that it's refreshing to see him "called out" by a major newspaper columnist. Sorry if it bores you, but that's what the "hide thread" button is for.

Peace.

7. he's a total jerk, but
The main story in the SUn Times mentioned Keyes challenging Obama to more debates and if he can't stand up to Keyes, Obama shouldn't be in the Senate and should step down. Keyes is getting positive press today.

8. The same news story
gave equal time to Obama and his replies. Not saying the Sun-Times reporter is any good, but it wasn't pro-Keyes at all. Also, did you see the original post in this thread? It was from today's Sun-Times too... what's positive about it?

10. nothing is positive
Thank goodness, by the Times' columnist. But the two main papers' reporters seem to be trailing Keyes around like puppydogs and are quoting him in his challenges for more debates. Obama is reacting instead of putting in some real jabs to whacko Keyes. The Trib web site shows several photos of Keyes on their story and none of Obama, that sort of thing. Looking at the whole thing, that idiot Keyes is grabbing the headlines and Obama is like an afterthought, Obama is at the end of the story for a response to the daily Keyes charges, dares, etc.

9. Thanks ChiBurb...
Looks like the Chicago media is swarming over the guy. The Sun-Times was all over Keyes today and he had a real rough time with Elizabeth Brackett on Channel 11 last night. Not quite the way to make a good impression for a newcomer.

Here's hoping the media avoids this blowhard's "Social conservative" crap...since those are STATE, not federal issues. If this dude is that concerned about school prayer or abortion (thanks, Neil Steinberg for calling it anti-abortion...not "pro life) and gay issues, he should run for the STATE Senate.

Cheers & Kick!

12. now I would have liked to have seen Brackett!
I keep missing Keyes and am always hearing about the stuff afterwards.
What was Brackett getting him on? I am glad to hear there are some good interviewers who won't let this guy get away with his sick crap.

15. She Was Excellent...
She wouldn't let him go off on his "morality" crap and kept going back to his carpetbagging and how he'd serve the state.

I expect a far more scathing shot at him on Friday night's show with Joel Weisman...and I haven't heard Lynn Sweet, Jim Warren or Dick Kay chime in on this matter yet...but we know we will!

It's just utter stupidity to come into a new state (I'm not even gonna play the carpetbagger game...to easy) and start tearing down the place and showing contempt to for the people he's asking their vote from. The epitome of arrogance, and the GOOP is gonna pay for for years in this state.

18. GREAT, GREAT!!!
I want Keyes exposed so badly and if all the reporters just follow him around looking for a headline, well, they will get a headline. The reporters are pandering to this whackright now and it just eggs him on more. primal scream

11. Yes He In !!!
And WE are in a Nuts Hell!!!

I'd love to know what the GOP has promised Keyes. Just what is he getting in return for the first national assault on the future first Black President of The United States?

13. he is such a carpetbagging hypocrite
They promised their financial support but he, I believe, loves putting his core fanatic beliefs (victory for God) out there and getting big publicity. Even if he loses this race bigtime, he still gets more people contributing to his web site for further promulgation of his reactionary ideas. It is win-win for him. I wish MD would lock him up for non-payment of his 97 taxes. Or just locking him up because he is an idiot (will do). The last time he ran was a few years ago so he has probably been chomping at the bit to get out in front of the cameras. Obama has too much class to be in the same room with this clown.

17. Try These Perks...
Keyes still owes over $500k in campaign debts...consider those gone.

Keyes makes big bucks speaking at Repugnican clubs and this will make his fees among the tops for the months following the election. This dude's fortunes have taken a hit in the last few years...losing that MSGOP gig and then not even getting calls from the networks as a "resident talking head".

Keyes is a poster child for big donations from fundamentalist and rich conservatives who view him as the anti-Jesse Jackson or worse, racist terms. Like JC Watt, Keyes is a "house black" who is trotted out to put forth the sham that there is a black presence in the Repugnican party.

Black President? Repugnican? Repugnican Black President? Surely you jest! LOL!

14. I wonder...
Is Keyes a Cubs, Whitesox, or Cardinals fan?

What does Keyes think of the Bears chances this year?

Has Keyes enjoyed Millennium Park?

Does Keyes have any opinions on getting some Federal transportation money to help finance the CTAs reconstruction of some of the el lines (I know, that's a House of Representation deal)?

When was the last time Keyes had a sit down with the IL governor or Mayor Daley to discuss Illinois's critical issues?
