Bill Clinton at Transylvania University

By John M. Broder

Ky. on Monday (Photo: Todd Heisler/The New York Times)

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Bill Clinton was only supposed to introduce his wife Monday night at Transylvania University here, but, you know, he can’t help himself.

In the space of 12 minutes he blasted the media (“by their own admission this has been the most slanted press coverage in American history”), mocked Senator Barack Obama for vastly outspending Mrs. Clinton in several states he lost (“in Pennsylvania she was outspent 3-1, by $8 million and she won anyway”) and hammered home the Clinton message of the day (“In every single electoral math I have seen she is beating Senator McCain handily and she is the only Democrat who is doing that”).

He described his wife as a “change maker” with a long record of public service, drawing an implied contrast with Senator Obama. He said that the media commentators who are “dissing” Mrs. Clinton all have college degrees, good jobs and don’t have to worry about the cost of filling up their gas tanks.

And he pressed the argument Mrs. Clinton made earlier in the day, that she had now and would have at the end of the primary process on June 3 more popular votes than Mr. Obama.

Who or what else can Hillary and Bill blame? Her campaign has already blamed sexism, caucuses, big crowds, speeches, Democratic activists, cult of personality, first questions, etc.

Wonder what Hillary's argument will be on June 4 when there are no more pledged delegates and she is still 200 delegates short of 2025?

Chances are by that time the superdelegates still uncommitted will be less than 200.

Will Hillary concede or will she go running around the country saying: I can win this, it's not over.

For Obama: 109 To Go

If Obama picks up 45 delegates from KY and OR, it'll be 64 to go.

edited typo.

15. Incorrect
Transylvania means "through the woods" in Latin. Brush up on your history, its the 16th oldest college in the US.

18. Can you please not use Dracula?
A lot of people perceive that as sexist and we really need to be careful. The last thing we want to do is give credibility to those who claim she lost because of sexism.

22. Someone else said that same ridiculous thing...
...to me the other day, when I referred to Hillary Clinton as a vampire.

Yes, I called a name. But sexist?

It's one of the most bizarre things anyone has ever said to me---and now I see
someone else saying it.

I guess I'm missing something too.

24. And I wasn't even calling Hillary (or Bill) Dracula.
All I did was make an offhand wisecrack about Transylvania College. When i hear the word "Transylvania" I always think of Dracula. That's it.

I still don't get it.

25. Maybe one of the talking points in the...
...latest Hillary conference call--is to avoid all vampire discussions and to shoot
down anyone who refers to vampires as "sexist."

I'm mystified.

How are vampires or the topic of vampires...sexist?

3. He better be giving speeches for big bucks over in Bumfuckistan
or wherever he's raking in all that dough. He's gonna need the money to pay off all those campaign debts. If he keeps up this kind of shit much longer he'll be lucky to be asked to be the keynote speaker at the rutabaga festival in Rooster Poot Arkansas. Or maybe all this is just mental masturbation on his part.

Irrelevancy thy name is clintoon.

Just like a sports team that wins several championships in a row; they are bested by the younger, faster team.

Time to say goodnight Bill and Hill.

19. I admit ... Somtimes I feel a wee bit sorry for Bill.
Especially yesterday. He was in Portland for part of the day. Can you imagine how he felt? Virtually ignored while tens of thousands of people flocked to see the younger, smarter, more handsome and more charismatic guy who will be president, leaving the Old School former prez to wallow in the rejected politics of blame, complain, and divide.

Ross Perot voice: "See, now that's just sad."
