Rally in Crow Agency
by Caitlin HarveyMonday, May 19, 2008 at 03:45 PM

After holding a town hall meeting in Billings, Barack headed to the Crow Nation Reservation in Crow Agency, Montana, where he was formally adopted as a member of the Crow tribe. He was given a Crow name, AWE KOOTA BILXPAAK KOOXSHIIWIASH, which translates to "he who helps all people of the land."

5. "a President who's committed to what's right: respecting you, honoring you."
Edited on Mon May-19-08 06:25 PM by FLDem5
...We have a lot of work to do in this country for all people: black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American. We are all one people.

...It starts with a sense of respect. It starts with the belief that all people are worthy of respect. I will never forget you. You will be on my mind every day that I'm in the White House.

...We can make sure that we have a President who's committed to what's right: respecting you, honoring you. And now that I'm a member of the family, you know that I won't break my commitment to our family.

33. this is why i feel so good about him. I got into a spat with a girl who
works in my sister's business office about the election. She was prattling on about muslims and the usual. I told her she sees Muslims, I see countrymen and women, AMERICANS, who just HAPPEN to be Muslims. I told her I see Barack Obama as an AMERICAN who can lead us back to the light, who JUST HAPPENS to be African on his father's side. I told her to pull her head out. We are countrymen and women first. I am so proud of Barack going to the reservations. Maybe he can help these people get their money back. Poverty on these lands is astonishing. Bravo for this day!

I listened to it much younger than that! Of course, not with the encouragement of my mom. She would have died. I went to a Catholic school, so of course "Catholic Girls" was like forbidden fruit to us - VERY, very important to know all the words.

37. John Kerry did in '04, promising an Indian liaison office in his White House.
He enjoyed 90%+ support among Indian people in New Mexico and Arizona, and likely elsewhere. It's a shame so many of their votes were erased by the Rethug voting machines. (In some Indian precincts in New Mexico, the Presidential undervote (no recorded choice for President) was higher than 25%.)

I would love to see Bill Richardson as Obama's VP. Gov. Richardson speaks openly about having been civilized by the tribal leaders within the Land of Enchantment.

I know exactly what he means.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.

44. You don't want to be named "Walking Eagle"
My Northern Arapaho friends once gave that name to a know-it-all Easterner who had come to save them (the latest in a long line).

They named him Walking Eagle in a big ceremony. I asked the tribe's medicine man, Little Joe Duran, how they came up with the name. Little Joe said "that Yankee is so full of shit, all he could do is walk."

Lets Decode this

1. Barack Black Eagle
2. The Crow Nation
3. AWE KOOTA BILXPAAK KOOXSHIIWIASH

Ok framing Barack as 'The Black' candidate is bad enough, but Jim Crow and the KKK is outrageous. There are no words.
