Don't worry about an OBL October Surprise, it's not happening
and Musharaff gets to blame the fact that he couldn't get bin Laden on Bush! Why? BECAUSE IT'S BUSH'S OWN FAULT!!!!!!

When looking for cover for his political Terra Lert, he outed an agent the Pakistanis were using to capture Al Queda operatives. Now, that's a passing dream:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/08/09/terror.wrap/index.html

So Musharaff gets to blame the fact that he won't get OBL on Bush as well as avoid a potential civil war in Pakistan, because turning over OBL would incite the radicals in Pakistan.

2. I have to agree

Pakistan needed an excuse not to turn him over. They have to keep him there, as you noted, so that the radical Muslims won't rise up against him. I'd like to add also, that we have to remember that the binLaden family (including Usama binLaden) are family friends of the Bush's, so there may not even be much desire on their part to apprehend him either.

And capturing Saddam was not a major coup for the Bush regime either - a short poll bounce and that was it. Now they have to murder him in his cell so he doesn't implicate Rummy and Cheney in a court of law.

I think they've been neutered on that score.

So it's plan B - bomb Iranian "weapons production facilities" and use the old saw, "never change riders in the middle of a race".

4. So then,
Pakistan is harbouring terrorists and the alledged mastermind to September 11, but we invaded Iraq?

3. I was JUST thinking that
I've been out of the news loop this weekend, and watching this morning, when I saw the little "Pakistan says leaks hurt investigation" banner or whatever, my first thought was, "they've got nothing and are looking for an excuse." (Or, to be fair, "they're not really interested in catching OBL and are looking for an excuse.")

By the way, slightly off topic, but a friend told me that the buildings mentioned in the latest alerts were actually all mentioned in the 9/11 commission report. Is that true? I assume the report is online somewhere and searchable, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I want to be clear that I don't know for sure yet whether or not this is true, but if it's been discussed already or someone knows for sure one way or the other, please let me know.

5. Building alerts
The 9/11 report only mentioned that at the time of the attacks security was being beefed up at the World bank and WTO buildings to protect their annual meetings. I.e., that's when the anti-globalists raise a ruckus.

It doesn't mention the Citigroup or Prudential buildings.

Wall Street is just mentioned as a "prestige" target in general.

8. Iraq attack makes not much sense since....
PAKISTAN....

> created and supported Taliban in Afghanistan
> Taliban sheltered and supported Al-Qaeda

> Osama B Ladin and his gang are hiding in Pakistan

> Every 911 terrorist had his extremist islamic
indoctrination done in one of the "madrassas"
(religious teaching schools) in Pakistan

> Pakistan has more madrassas than all the other
countries combined

> Pakistan is the only islamic country which actually
has nukes and missiles to deliver them

> Pakistan is one bullet to Musharraf's head away
from islamic extremist takeover

And we attack Iraq?

We need a regime change in Washington!!

9. I'd have agreed with that, til I saw a VERY interesting guest
on CSPAN the other day: a woman from that that Peace Institute

she's from UofChicago, speaks many of the regional languages (conversed in two or three of them to callers)

she knew more about the region than anybody I've seen.

AND, she was very critical of all hands there, including Musharaff

not to mention the US, especially the idiots in charge of the Afghan fiasco.

point is, she's spent LOTS of time there, gotten to know many many people, knows the place very well, and says Musharaff has control over the Islamists, and that whole thing is a red herring

wish I could remember her name, so you can see what she's written on the subject

did anybody else see that? it was over the weekend, I think

one of the very best Washington Journals I've ever seen

10. I Agree, Unless There Is More Money Deposited in Musharaff's Swiss Account
I wonder how many hundreds of millions (really) that Musharaff has already banked away from the American taxpayers? And hello to Walt Starr.
