16. It's possible, though, and that's not something we could have said before.
I think a lot of states are on the table that we never would have expected. Virginia, the Carolinas, LA, TX, CO, MO, maybe more.

24. We don't have to win TX
What we have to do is force McCain to spend 30 campaign days and 10% of his money there because HE DOES need to win it.

The GOP is shitting their pants right now. If they can't dominate in Texas, they can't even be in this game.

If nothing else, this will force McCain to go on the campaign trail with Bush in Texas, which will be a spectacle that will help Obama in most other states.

26. EXACTLY
This is the same point that I have been trying to hammer home against Hillary supporters. She offers nothing more than Ohio, PA, Florida and maybe Ark. Where as Obama brings a boatload of states into the game, such as Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, LA, Texas, N.C., Virginia as well as Ohio, PA and Florida. This will result in exactly what you said....McCain spending money where he doesn't want to and Republicans shitting their pants!

25. Why do you doubt it? Have you looked at the demographic change since Katrina (many good Democrats
came to Texas for refuge and never went home)?

Have you looked at how the much-hated border fence is working up the Latino vote?

Are you considering the last two polls which show incumbent Repub John Cornyn only 4% ahead of not-well-known-YET Democratic nominee Rick Noriaga?

Have you been following how the Texas Republican Party completely alienated the supporters of Ron Paul (who's a Texas Congressman with a big following in Texas) by disenfranchising them?

Are you considering the deep media penetration of the series of scandals tainting the all-Repub Texas Supreme Court?

The Texas Repub party might be heading into a perfect storm ...

15. That's similar to the margin (in fact, it may be identical) of a recent poll
for the Cornyn-Noriega Senate race. I think knocking off Cornyn is much more likely to happen (I just don't see TX going Democratic on the Presidential level; in fact, I don't see the Democratic candidate losing by less than double digits), but such polls are definitely encouraging- indicating that Texans are definitely not satisfied with the current state of things. They'll likely be unable to bring themselves to vote for Obama, but they'll at least bitch about having to vote for McCain, and maybe a higher-than-usual number of wingnuts will opt out this time around.

34. Why was I certain your assessment would be as it is?
I think again, you have underestimated Hillary's opponent, much as she did. Also, McCain is way overrated....and there will be more than enough time for many to see it. When asked who would they want in the livingroom for the next 4 years, you may be in for a rude awakening of what might take place in that voting booth; and it may be the opposite of the Bradley effect that everyone is always trumpeting. Melanin really is just that, even if some folks wanted to bet everything on it as a reason that they were "better" commonly known as "more electable".

38. I just got home from dinner with friends of my friend's
These are folks who had not even bothered to register to vote since moving to Texas 10 years ago. They liked Bush Sr. and supported Bush Jr because he was a "Texan," and then continued to support him and the war. Sometime in the past 6 months, they have suddenly become RABID Bush haters!!! They are finally registering to vote and plan to vote straight ticket Dem just to "kick the fuckers out of office" in Texas. They were making all kinds of snide remarks about "John McBush." They even plan on attending a town hall meeting with their congressman, Nick Lampson. I am really floored!

*snif* It really warmed my heart! :pals:

43. Obama gets 69% of Democrats just like Bush got 67% of Republicans in 2000. Don't you realize that
TWICE AS MANY Repubs who supported McBushIII in 2000 said they'd vote Democrat or skip the election in 2000 rather than vote Bush? They all cane home in November 2000. All but the DINOs will come home to Obama in 2008. If that excludes you, begin seeking out another on-line community now.

If McCain is touring around in there come October and the RNC is spending big money to hold on to Texas, that's a win for our side even if they end up ahead by 10 points in the end.
