Swift Boat Vets say McCain only POW to gain weight while captive
McCain gives complete support for Bush*. Maybe they are right. Maybe McCain did gain weight while a POW. He is acting that way at the moment. The more they bash him the more solid his support for Bush*. It appears he has sold out his integrity. Did he sell out in Hanoi as well?

1. I could never figure out how he could have anything to do with Bush
after what they did to him and his family (whispering campaign, push polling)in South Carolina. He must be a very, very odd person.

9. you got a point there
Yes, Zell can learn even though you may disagree with your party, loyality to your party is a good thing, McCain despite his disagreements is loyal to the republican party, now I like the guy but I accept he's a republican and his record shows it but he's a good guy.

26. No, this idiot will never learn...
This was on the editorial page in today's Atlanta Journal & Constitution. Damn it - we have Bush to make us look like fools abroad, and I have to have this yahoo make me look like an idiot here at home. Damn it.

Beliefs endure despite criticisms

Last Sunday on "Meet the Press," I spent most of my time responding to my critics, including Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial writers. Perhaps, then, you will let me respond to charges of being a "traitor," "leper," "crackpot," "senile old man" and "mental case" -- to use some of the nicer terms I've read.

I am a Democrat and will be until the day I die. I'm saddened to have lost some once-cherished friends. I've worked longer and harder for the Democratic Party than 99 percent of those now criticizing me. I have voted for every Democratic presidential candidate since 1952. I have never voted for a Republican. But I will in November.

Of course, my critics have every right to call me any name they wish. This is America, thank God. But I want them to know I will not be deterred and I will not be changed.

I can take anything they can dish out or send my way. It only makes me more determined. In my heart and in my head, I know I'm right about this time in history, about this president and about his opponent.

ZELL MILLER
Miller, a Democrat, is Georgia's senior U.S. senator.

23. McCain Sees The GOOP Beyond Bunnypants...
I'm sure he sees it more now than ever. If this regime goes down in November, there are gonna be some real long knives coming out in the Repugnican party. Who stands to gain the most? John McCain.

By playing good soldier and martyr, he stands to be one of the few Repugnicans who can rise above the "blame game" that will go on and grab more power within the party. I'm not sure this is a good thing, but it can't be worse than another 4 years of this evil regime.

McCain reminds me of one of those guys who wants to Party with the Democrats and live like a Repugnican. He picks and chooses what he does carefully for the maximum PR value. I don't think even he knows who the real John McCain is now.

28. I believe he did.
After prolonged torture, he signed a war crimes confession( the use of chlorine gas to clear tunnels?). He was given to option to be released but declined.
After he returned, the military changed its policy toward confessions under torture.

They also seem to believe he was served up virgin prostitutes for his personal pleasure, being the Admiral's son. Meanwhile, I learned yesterday McCain was a hero before his imprisonment in the Forrestal fire:

...On that hot July day a large air strike against North Vietnam was being prepared on the carrier's flight deck. Jet planes, ordnance, and people were everywhere. Suddenly, a 5-inch Zuni rocket accidentally fired from a waiting fighter jet, striking the plane of Navy pilot (now senator) John McCain, rupturing the fuel tank and causing a massive fire that engulfed other planes, pilots, and crewmembers.

McCain and several other men escaped the blazing inferno just before nine 1,000-pound bombs loaded on aircraft began to explode. The blasts and raging fire blew the flight deck apart, allowing burning fuel to penetrate deep into the ship's interior decks. Men were incinerated, suffocated, and mangled from flying debris. In just a few minutes the ship appeared mortally stricken.

Telling this story from the perspective of the officers and men of the Forrestal, Freeman describes shipboard horrors that are beyond belief. However, the 5,000-man crew reacted as they were trained to, fighting the fires, controlling the damage, and rescuing injured shipmates. Many rescuers died trying to save others. The ship's entire professional firefighting team was wiped out when a 1,000-pound bomb exploded right in front of them. Other sailors heroically stayed at their battle stations, doing their duty, until they perished.

Freeman's investigation into the tragedy reveals an accident that could have been prevented. A command-authorized shortcut in missile-arming procedures plus a second, unauthorized shortcut conspired to allow an unexpected electrical impulse to fire the Zuni rocket. The 1,000-pound bombs should not have exploded on the flight deck, but they were World War II vintage and leaking explosive compound. The bombs were so old and unstable that experienced ordnance men had wanted to throw them overboard as soon as they were delivered....

http://www.moaa.org/magazine/January2003/bookshelf.asp

As the crew realized that some of the bombs were exploding in the fire very quickly, they decided to get rid of them in any way possible. The photo at left shows crew members rolling a bomb over to the deck edge so they could throw it over.

McCain's the only war hero they've got, and they're willing to destroy him. Just as they are willing to destroy the CIA's network for tracking WMDs and for monitoring Iran. All they care about is holding on to power. No foresight, no long term. Selfish fucks.

27. Here's Something Interesting...
I played around with that site and found a second one hidden beneath...

http://swift1.he.net/~swiftvet/

I did a bit of googling on the domain and it appears to be an ISP...and by the way the address is set my bets are this is a subscriber to that service, and this is where the video is being housed, mirrored and originating from.

The company looks on the level, but maybe someone knows more or can find more than my rudimentary searches.

Cheers!

I do know that his VC captors beat the living shit out of John McCain every few days for the better part of four years of his six-year captivity.

The Not-So-Swift Boat "Veterans" may be the most sickening liars yet fielded by the Dirty Tricks department of the GOP.

32. Not Viet-Cong?
I have long been under the impression that the term referred to any north Vietnamese soldier, just as the South Vietnamese military was called the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Viet Nam). But I was mainly a kid during the Vietnam war, and probably picked up a few pieces of misinformation.

Can you clarify a little who was doing what?

Thanks (in advance, of course)!

McCain spent 5 years as a POW. He must have weighed 90 lbs before he was captured if he gained weight as a PQW if what you are speculating on is true. Does Senator McCain look particularly chubby to you in this picture?

Your post is as disgusting as the phony "not too swift" boat veterans ads that are attacking John Kerry on his service record. Those ads are being financed by corrupt corporate Bu$h campaign financers.

Sometimes disgust it what it takes. Remember they only pick out the most disgusting posts at DU to air mainstream to belittle us. I want more attention to the Slime the "Vets" are putting out. McCain is a big boy and can defend himself if he is of a mind to do so. I haven't seen him doing so. He is just sucking up more to Bush*. I appreciate his speaking out against what this group is saying about Kerry but I want him to stand taller and distance himself totally from this corrupt bunch. I'm speaking of the entire Bush* Cabal and as long as he supports them he is suspect.

35. Pay attention to McCain
John McCain has been stumping for Team Bush purely out of loyalty to his Republican Party. If you listen -- and read -- closely, you'll often catch the drift that McCain has been making only the most general statements about Bush. After having endured a Bush smear campaign, it makes sense.

I can't really fault anyone for loyalty to their "team". What I do fault is the hailstorm of dirty tricks and corrupt flunkies that a large number of Republicans see fit to call out to help them get elected. As far as I know, McCain hasn't taken that route himself, and he has made several statements condemning the practice. Although I consider Republicans "the other side", the divisions within the GOP itself are becoming glaringly evident.

As I've said before, I don't intend to vote for Senator McCain, and I consider him to be a political "opponent", but he's a fairly decent guy overall. They still exist on "the other side" but they're being forced out every day. Teresa Kerry can vouch for this -- John Heinz was also under attack from the "Man-on-Dog" wing of the Pennsylvania GOP at the time he was killed in the aircraft accident. McCain and his fellow Republicans-who-are-still-worth-a-damn bear close attention. They can often show us some of the real activity in the GOP that takes place behind the curtain of fraud.
