Oregon at center of presidential fight
One candidate. One candidate's spouse. And one candidate's big-name supporter. They are each wending their way through Oregon today.

Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, is in Portland talking about wind energy. (Read his speech)

Former President Bill Clinton is working his way south along the coast, pushing the candidacy of his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton

The former governor of Mississippi is also in Oregon today and Tuesday to stump for Sen. Barack Obama.

And Obama's campaign announced today that the Illinois senator is returning to Oregon this coming weekend, the second stop here by the Democratic presidential hopeful in a week.

2. I've often wondered about this
Haven't seen any stats about when most people mail in their ballots. On one hand, you'd think that it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to keep putting so many resources into elections after ballots have been out for over a week. Then again, perhaps it's money well spent on the undecideds who wait til the last minute.

Be interesting to know what the various campaigns' internals say about that.

btw: It would be great to FINALLY oust Bob Drake from his little fiefdom. Unfortunately, living in that little disenfranchised strip called Aloha, I don't vote on that- or the Hillsboro stuff :(

I was beginning to think the only way Drake would leave office was in a casket... but I think Doyle's got a real chance.

6. Do you all know why
it is called "Aloha?" The man who founded the town was a personal friend of the last queen of Hawaii! She actually visited the town once too. The grandmother of a friend of mine told me about presenting flowers to her when she was a little girl.
