Carol Simpson's 1989 video compared to Larry King Live last night 'Black man can't win'
First please read this comment by blueocean on DailyKos on the comment Carol Simpson, HRC surrogate and supporter, made on Larry King last night that includes a transcript of the show:

Larry King: Hillary Supporter Carole Simpson fears Obama is unelectable because of his race

While watching Larry King last night, I was astonished to hear yet another Hillary supporter discuss fears regarding Obama's lack of electability in the general against McCain.

I'm a Obama fan who has managed to keep quiet regarding the "Popular Vote" argument. I've listened to the "Big State" argument without saying too much. I've been told numerous times that a "Caucus" shouldn't count since only activist go to those anyway. I've never been to a "Caucus" so I admit I may be too inexperienced to know enough about those one way or the other.

However, tonight on the Larry King show a Hillary Supporter (Carole Simpson) offered me and other Americans yet another option to use in deciding how to vote: The Facts

There is just one small problem. Her facts are based on Fear & Racism.

Transcript Below -

Larry King Show 05/09/08

CAROLE SIMPSON: I was going to make a comment about the white voters statement that is attributed to Hillary, but I decided I have a better point to make and I want to make it right now. And that is facts are facts, as Lanny talked about with the tracking polls and Hillary's comparison to McCain's numbers, if they were running against each other in a general election.

Do you know what my big fear is, is that Barack Obama is going to win the nomination and during the general election all of those white people that came out to vote for him in the primaries are going to get in that booth and are not going to vote for him, just like Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, when he was running for the governor of California. All the polls said that he was going to win and he lost by a large margin because people said what was politically correct.

KING: Yes. What are you saying that America will not elect...

KING: You're saying America will not elect a black man?

Is that what you're saying?

CAROLE SIMPSON: I am fearful of that. I am fearful that "God damn America" is going to pop into their heads as soon as they get into the polling booth.

I am so offended that it is acceptable for a Democratic presidential candidates supporter to go on national television and suggest that white voters across this country will not vote for Obama because of his race.

I can only say that I would be equally offended if an Obama supporter were to suggest on national television that Hillary is unelectable because men will go into the voting booth and refuse to vote for a woman.

...............................

Now take a look at this video on how some little black children chose white images over black ones, that was created by ABC News TV Special in 1989, almost 20 years ago, and hosted by Carol Simpson where she says, "But in the 1960's we proclaimed black is beautiful, so it came as a great shock to me that today little black children are still choosing white images as nicer, prettier, and smarter. How can we as black people expect anyone to like us if we don't like ourselves."

Then George Straight, ABC News personality goes on to say that "You know in this very competitive world we live in racism makes no sense, for racism means that America won't benefit from some of America's best minds."

...............

Carol Simpson must own her comments forever. She has given up on one of the greatest, albeit in my and others opinion, minds of our time. We have the chance to transform in one election the very image that some little black children will grow up with in their crucial young years. But this should not be the major reason for voting for Barack Obama, it should be based on the very decency of the man himself. The electorate should look at the entire body of his life's work until the election in 2008. As for me I support Barack Obama because he is our best hope for the future of our country, and yes, our world!

1. You are suggesting that Simpson should support Obama because both are black?
Who is playing the race card? I have seen that pressure from Michelle Obama put on black citizens--that if they are black, why aren't they supporting the black candidate.

Yet, if the word "black" were changed to "woman" you would all be very upset at the suggestion that women should support Clinton because she is a woman.

I do not understand why people cannot choose to support him or her based on the issues, why force Simpson to support him because he is black?

2. No
Going on TV and screaming Black people can't get elected is fucking wrong. With the way the Clinton campaign has been talking she's been urged to do this because her being black gives it a cover. The racebaiting of the past 3 days has sealed Clinton's legacy.

Good luck in the 2012 senate primary when the African American community remember this disgusting episode of democratic politics.

What she said was a betrayal of what she stood for. Black people can't get elected...she can support whoever the fuck she wants but saying that is disgusting.

8. She has $2.3 billion in earmark requests
this year. She's planning on buying her way back into the good graces of her NY constituents.

11. I say
The final shot against the bow is Obama tell her he'll release his database to her primary opponent in NY privately if she doesn't stop attacking him and start attacking McCain.

3. NO - I am saying that she is saying that he can't win because he is black! Not to support or not!
I cannot believe how some of you people try to twist comments that are made and make them into something that is totally different. I just said if she said in 1989 that if blacks don't love themselves how can they expect others too!!!!!!!!

She should not have brought up race PERIOD! It is NOT what I said - THIS is what I said:

But this should not be the major reason for voting for Barack Obama, it should be based on the very decency of the man himself. The electorate should look at the entire body of his life's work until the election in 2008. As for me I support Barack Obama because he is our best hope for the future of our country, and yes, our world!

Get it! Leave the racial overtones out of this election!!!!!

5. So She's a Concern Troll
Edited on Sat May-10-08 08:20 AM by Crisco
But hey, don't worry about it. Now that the subject is there and on the table - thanks to Hillary Clinton - if Obama becomes the nominee it will still be there for the general and it can be used as a possibly strategy for the GE. And won't the Obama campaign be glad that it was Clinton who brought it up, lest San Francisco-Pennsylvania repeat itself.

Just keep pounding it for the electorate: only racists will vote for McCain. If there are enough white voters who haven't looked into that particular abyss and come back okay with themselves, Obama will win the majority of the white vote. Just pray god they won't catch on to how they're being manipulated or there'll be hell to pay.

9. Carol Simpson would have been one of the black kids
saying that the white doll would be a better President. Looks like her own racial prejudices are being revealed right now.

Maybe now that her illness has been put on display for all to see, she can put herself on the road to recovery.

12. It is sad indeed
that someone (Carole Simpson) who has weathered so many storms including racial storms would have such negative views. I posted on this a couple of days ago. Only a few replies but there were mixed feelings.

just my take on it...

in addition to your replies, here's what others on DU had to say:
