Jim Webb!
For VP I do not care about that senate seat I believe that we can run another centrist someone whom Jim Webb supports.

8. Don't forget Virginia's Gov Time Kaine is a democrat
do he could appoint a democrat to serve out Webb's final year. Giving the appointee the edge in the midterms.

22. Because he is more socially conservative than Hillary and so are his constituents
And they don't like her Tory economic policies either. But the big-business Dems in NoVa like Clinton's elitist economic and social agenda just fine.

19. Good point. There's no one to replace Webb in the Senate. All of VA's Dem are Blue Dog big business
Edited on Thu May-08-08 11:01 AM by Leopolds Ghost
ESPECIALLY billionaire AOL exec Warner (who purchased his NASCAR loving reputation from a marketing specialist),
Shrum-esque Chuck Robb, and neocon Doug Wilder. Webb is probably the only labor populist in VA elected office,
and that includes people like Kaine who are mostly similar to Hillary, except more socially conservative.

Of course, the Repubs are worse... this is a state where there is no right to form a union shop.

On the Stephanie Miller just now, her guest made the point about how great Webb would be. However he also said it would increase the assassination factor for Obama. He said the very best choice Obama could make to assure that he would never be assassinated would be to have Bush as VP ILMAOL!

I thought that was funny.

Webb would be a great choice as would Clark and Richardson.

30. Clark, however, is weaker on the Second Amendment...
http://www.govote.com/Wesley_Clark.htm

Renewal of the AWB will once again raise the gun-control issue and energize the GOP, esp. in the 2010 Congressional elections. So many folks in these forums insist that gun-control is not an issue, yet are not sensitive to the pending AWB, which Clark supports.

Lose the AWB and I would have less problem with Clark.

How about: Retired USMC General Anthony Zinni !?!
http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/zinni.html

Comments of Gen. Anthony Zinni (ret.) during a speech before the Florida Economic Club, Aug. 23, 2002:

Attacking Iraq now will cause a lot of problems. I think the debate right now that's going on is very healthy. If you ask me my opinion, Gen. Scowcroft, Gen. Powell, Gen. Schwarzkopf, Gen. Zinni, maybe all see this the same way.

It might be interesting to wonder why all the generals see it the same way, and all those that never fired a shot in anger and really hell-bent to go to war see it a different way. That's usually the way it is in history. (Crowd laughter.)

But let me tell you what the problem is now as I see it. You need to weigh this: what are your priorities in the region? That's the first issue in my mind.

The Middle East peace process, in my mind, has to be a higher priority. Winning the war on terrorism has to be a higher priority. More directly, the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Central Asia need to be resolved, making sure Al Qaeda can't rise again from the ashes that are destroyed. Taliban cannot come back. That the warlords can't regain power over Kabul and Karzai, and destroy everything that has happened so far.

33. The perceived deficiency of an Obama candidacy is his foreign policy expertise
Jim Webb's record on foreign policy is much better than John McCain's, and we will own him on the economy anyway.

34. Webb's foreigh policy experience is military and DoD experience. Otherwise he has no more experience
than Obama in international diplomacy.

I like Webb fine as a VP, but it would be better to balance Obama with someone other than another Senator with someone with a longer legislative resume than Webb's.

In terms of reaching out to gun-loving, church-going, military-serving, working-class, white, rural Democrats, Webb fits the bill twice as well as Hillary.
