A comparison of two visionaries - Mandela and Obama
Edited on Tue May-06-08 08:41 PM by Christa

onight, as I was watching Senator Obama's victory speech from Raleigh, NC I was struck by the similarities between him and the greatest statesman, the greatest politician who ever lived, Nelson Mandela.

Both are visionaries, both are optimistic, positive, generous, forgiving people. Nelson Mandela went to jail for 27 years because he believed in change, because he believed in hope, because he also had the audacity to hope, just like Senator Obama.

Nelson Mandela had to fight the white regime in a very racist South Africa. Senator Obama is fighting the rightwing, the best known female politician in America, as well as her husband who is well loved.

Nelson Mandela came from humble beginnings, just like Senator Obama. Both overcame their history and their circumstances because they know they can change history. Senator Obama came from nowhere 15 months ago and reserved a place in history for himself, against all expectations.

5. No matter what their backgrounds,
they both understand the concept of "Ubuntu".

There is a very good book that everyone should read:

"Frontiers" by Noel Mostert.

It will expand one's mind considerably.

6. I Beg Your Pardon? Barack Obama Is a Pimple on Mandela's Ass
Edited on Tue May-06-08 08:52 PM by Crisco
Nelson Mandela risked his life to fight for equality. Mandela stood up against the South African state and acted outside of the law for his beliefs. Mandela was willing to go prison for his fight.

Barack Obama last week ran away from a friend of twenty years, claiming all the way he never truly knew what the man was all about.

How can anyone even begin to compare the two?

And for the heck of it, what was Barack Obama doing while college students across the nation were having sit ins for force divestiture - including Harvard students.
