8. What a ridiculous notion that is
a great first "lady".
Eleanor Roosevelt made it work but beyond that....
truth is - there is no "great" about it. Unless you live in Stepford.
Why wish it on any woman?

Why wouldn't Michelle Obama make a great First Lady?

She's intelligent, attractive and would make a wonderful advocate for whatever causes she chooses. That would be her role as the wife of the President. The two of them are a team. There is nothing sexist about the role except as you chose to see it.

I'd love to be a First Husband.

Or First "Guy" or first "Gentlemen" I guess would be the equvalent of "lady"

Plus my wife would be a damned good President!

How women dress is key to their success.
They must be polite and not speak out of turn, bake good cookies and walk five steps behind hubby.
Michelle will learn. Don't go fretting. She will enjoy the role and always look cute in her nice outfit.

It's possible she's Jackiesque without being black-Jackiesque. It's not like her husband is running to be the black president. Race isn't the most important thing about a person and doesn't need to be appended to every description.

- women who have ideas and push them are not desirable. I was responding to the poster who said that Michelle won't push policy. And of course we don't want any pushy women even if they do have great stylists. So long as she shows cares about the children it will be OK. Headstart good to care about. Or children and library books. Or wildflowers. If she gets at all pushy or above herself Barack will have to bring her back on message and into line.

42. The article was interesting, too.
<snip>

"After the Reverend Wright controversy, Hillary Clinton had the nomination in her hands. Obama was suffering the worst press month of his campaign," said Republican media consultant Alex Castellanos. "Then she had a choice. She could have gotten bigger, more presidential, less political, could have risen to defend Obama. 'This is outrageous and has no place in politics.' She didn't do that. Instead, she chose to become smaller, more political, less presidential. Her own political instincts betrayed her."

clearly defined along traditional gender lines.
Not to do so just confuses people. And has people tossing around terms drained of meaning -in this case "sexism" - into the empty air.
