Why didn't Hillary propose immediate Emergency Price Controls on gas? Is that Too Liberal for her?
Edited on Mon May-05-08 08:09 AM by Armstead
Hillary has decided to offer something that sounds good on the surface, but which she knows will never happen. Okay you say, that's just poilitics. Well then, if she is going to play politics like that, WHY THE HELL PLAY RIGHT WING POLITICS?

Since she is dealing in Fantasyland promises, and buying votes with an impossible short-term fix, why not do it with something that might actually address the problem?

Emergency measures and regulations to cap the price of gas would not be out of line with liberal solutions. Something that would directly stop profiteering and gouging, and avoid the personal and social economic meltdown that current prices are leading to.

If she's going to plant ideas, why the hell not plant liberal ideas, and pander with those? Why choose to amplify the Right Wing claims that our problems are all due to high taxes?

Yes, I'm sort of jesting, but not really. Hillary is playing a populist. Why not be a progressive populist, rather than a conservative one?

1. A windfall profits tax is progressive. That's why McCain opposes it. n/t

2. I'm not talking about the windfall profit tax
Many Democrats support that concept, including Obama.

But you can't just slap on a Windfall Profit Tax for the summer. It will never happen, any more than a Tax Holiday for this summer will.

My point was that Hillary is echoing right-wing memes in her pandering. If she is going to pander, why not do it as a real liberal? Price controls are just as appealing to peopel who are looking for anything that will alleviate the current skyrocketing costs.

3. As Obama pointed out on MTP
she has already proposed to pay for her green policies with the WPT. She's double-dipping.

6. Because Obama chose not to pander by offering something impossible
Edited on Mon May-05-08 09:22 AM by Armstead
Hillary knows there will not be a gas tax holiday this summer.

Obama chose not to try to score cheap points by lying to voters.
