Pedophile priests run wild in the Catholic church for decades
and nobody ever asks a politician why they have stayed in the Catholic Church for 20 years. But a black pastor says a few stupid things and the media, the GOP and Hillary supporters go nuts demanding justification for a politician being around the "scary black man".

Why do you think that is?

23. That's the stupidest argument I've seen in awhile
First, Clinton never attacked Wright. In fact, she's been pretty quiet about the whole thing - she's answered a few direct questions, and done so gently.

Second, the notion that supporting clinton is equal to attacking Wright is just dumb.

24. Really?
Yeah, having Lanny Davis publish full opinion pieces in major newspapers isn't attacking Wright. Living in lala land indeed.

She dropped the 'Hamas' and 'Farrakhan' words at the ABC debate. We all saw a woman bereft of a soul. 15 years of having the most intimate details of your sex life turned into political points can take a toll I guess, but she still learned the wrong lessons.

Time to shut her down and tell her to shove that gas tax holiday where the sun don't shine.

25. The idea that it's wrong for her to exploit
a major weakness in her opponent is stupid. It's naive. It's ridiculous.

All things considered, she's said remarkably little about it - but then, she didn't have to say much. Wright wouldn't shut up and did her job for her.

Edited on Mon May-05-08 08:25 AM by hokies4ever
she still can't win. If she can't win with the Wright gift, how can she expect to win with the Iraq 'Hundred Years' War gift. Seems like she's a politician who is having trouble connecting with voters and closing the deal.

40. She did say quite clearly out of her own mouth that she wouldn't stay in a congreation with
a minister like Wright. The clear implication is that Obama shouldn't have either. And her campaign has made lots of mileage on the back of Rev Wright.

2. MSM is Church for Most Americans. Whatever MSM says IS Truth and How an American must Live!
Edited on Mon May-05-08 05:59 AM by quantass
MSM has never had a Black Pastor and cuz its a new Angle its a new story for Ratings...Everyone
knows the ins-outs of Catholic pedophile priests but because this is new and has the angle for race-baiting this is a ratings bonanza and they will (and have) jumped all over it....sure what Wright is saying isnt all that important and their have been priests (such as Hagee) that have said worse and the media ignores and i think yes it is a double-standard but this is the media for you....they intentionally are the ones making news for the sake of ratings....

hagee and others have said far worse, just check YouTube but the media doesnt care and come the GE it STILL wont matter...There's also the angle that because white america have already witnessed and accustomed to the corruption of there own white churches from past scandals but they still attend those churches these church goers understand and condone it....however, this new angle of a black pastor who, when you check the surmons in full, is actually speaking the truth (but with more intensity and less sugar-coating) it is deemed very strange and thus a new ratings angle for the media to exploit....all they need to do is take short sound-bites out-of-context and blanket it as a "hate speech" and presto BIG RATINGS....its a wet dream for them...let the 100-day Roman-style debauchery begin....Are they lying to the people? Sure, but the real purpose of news and the media isnt about truth, its about entertainment. Whoever thought it was a good idea for corporations to own the MSM must be rolling in their grave.

Sure its the viewing public that are tuning in to be "entertained" and sadly dont question the media about the relevancy or the importance of such issues but thankfully for the media the public is too dependent on them to question validity.

Ironic since the Church is your subject.

17. Great post. I 100% agree. I especially like
your point that white people have become accustomed to corruption within their own churches, and so, stories about it don't do anything for ratings, because readers are like, "yeah, tell me something I didn't know."

4. hopefully the priest wasn't giving a sermon on the benefits of pedophilia.
If he was and some one sat there for twenty years, then I would say it's a fair issue.

Plus, even obama says this is a fair issue on his character and judgement.

Doesn't anyone listen to Obama anymore?

5. No, they were too busy getting help from the current Pope to ESCAPE LAW ENFORCEMENT.
And being moved around so they could have continued access to MORE KIDS TO ABUSE.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/apr/24/children.ch...

Ratzinger's role in protecting the church against scandal became apparent four years ago. In May 2001, he sent a confidential letter to every bishop in the Catholic church reminding them of the strict penalties facing those who referred allegations of sexual abuse against priests to outside authorities.

Gee, whiz. Most places, that's considered criminal conspiracy. Obstruction of Justice. Uh. Big Time.

I'm sorry, please explain to me how anything Rev. Wright said that someone might consider personally upsetting or offensive even comes CLOSE to inhabiting the same galaxy of outrage?

33. It's been out in the open since at least the early 90s. That's not long enough?
And it's way worse -i.e. criminal conspiracy, DELIBERATELY letting Priests escape justice and continue hurting kids, etc.- than any words Obama's "scary black preacher" ever said.

7. If they "gave their lives to christ"....
...and are "married to christ"...

then the FLDS pales in comparison to the Catholic church. (How many brides does he need?)

While you recoil in horror for a second, ask yourself why abuse was tolerated, for so long, in the name of god?

8. Was Wright preaching on the benefits of being a slave?
I must have missed that in his sermons. I know lots of families, my daughter's in fact, that sit amongst these pedophiles every Sunday. I guess you don't listen to that part of the 'facts' about the Catholic Church or just choose to ignore it.

38. I must not understand what you are saying. I hear you saying that one doesn't have to
hold their church accountable for their behavior if they don't mention it in their sermons.

Tell me how Catholics can turn their heads and ignore this horrible problem that has been going on for decades if not centuries? The church has done nothing to stop it and in fact has tried to scare or pay parishioners into not testifying. And covering it up up to the highest levels. This isn't new this has been going on for a very, very long time.

The message that I believe is clear as a bell is that the church believes that this horrible behavior is a tolerable side effect, or collateral damage, to the critical need for the church's justification of their hierarchy. They must maintain the stand that priests are godly and therefore will behave accordingly. When they find out otherwise they try to hid it from their parishioners.

What happened in the Catholic Church was devastating. Far worse than some peoples nationalism being offended.

And who the heck am I smearing by pointing out a double standard?

34. I think it's because the Catholic Church didn't preach pedophilia...
like Rev. Wright preached hate. No one is saying Obama should have left the church because Rev. Wright stole a parishioners wife after acting as a marriage counselor. If anyone said he should leave because of that, and not public sermons, maybe your comparison would make any sense. Why can't Obama supporters stop injecting the insinuation of racism into everything.
