Edited on Mon May-05-08 02:05 AM by grantcart
Information from DemconWatch the most authoritative source for delegate questions
http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegate-list.html

1) May 1-4 Obama picks up + 6

5-1-08 - Moved DNC Joe Andrew (IN) from Clinton to Obama.
- Added DNC John Patrick (TX) for Obama
5-3-08 - Added DNC Brian Colon (NM), new add-on Inez Tenenbaum (SC)#, and new Guam Vice-Chair Jaime Paulino (GU) for Obama
5-4-08 - Added Parris Glendening (MD)# for Obama.

2) May 5th Obama picks up 3 Add Ons

http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/05/obama_picks_up_3_more_illinois.html

Obama picks up 3 more Illinois superdelegates: Daley, Currie and Stroger.
WASHINGTON--When the Democratic Party of Illinois meet next week to finish filling out the delegate slate, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will pick up three more superdelegates, according to Steve Brown, a spokesman for state party chair Michael Madigan, who is also the speaker of the Illinois House.

That's because the three appointments are all pledged to Obama: Mayor Daley --he shares strategist David Axelrod with Obama and brother Bill, the former Commerce Secetary is on the Obama team; Illinois House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago), a Hyde Parker who lives near the Obamas'; and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger.

3) More Super Delegate additions added down thread

7. yeah I noticed but didn't want to make a big deal of it because the Rep number could go
back and forth but the only categorythat Hillary dominates is DNC super delegates.

4. Hate to disagree, but that's not accurate.

Here is what Demconwatch had to say about May so far:

5-1-08 - Moved DNC Joe Andrew (IN) from Clinton to Obama.
- Added DNC John Patrick (TX) for Obama
- Added NY add-ons Andrew Cuomo (NY)#, Tom DiNapoli (NY)#, Virginia Fields (NY)# and Carmen Arroyo (NY)# for Clinton
- Added DNC John Olsen (CT) for Clinton
- Added DNC Herman Farrell Jr. (NY) for Clinton. He endorsed in 2007 but DCW has now received a statement from Farrell confirming his endorsement of Clinton.
5-2-08 - Added DNC Jaime Gonzalez Jr. (TX) for Clinton
5-3-08 - Added DNC Brian Colon (NM), new add-on Inez Tenenbaum (SC)#, and new Guam Vice-Chair Jaime Paulino (GU) for Obama
Added new add-on Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (MD)# for Clinton. We don't have a good source for Glendending for Obama, so we're holding off adding him for now.
5-4-08 - Added DNC Robert Martinez (TX) for Clinton
- Added Parris Glendening (MD)# for Obama.

My count shows Obama gaining 6 Supers (as you say) and Clinton gaining a net of 8 (-1 +9).

So far this month Clinton is +2 in the Supers race.

OTOH, there are 14 more supers gone... and if this kept up Clinton would come up way short by the end of the process. And, of course, if 3 more declare tomorrow for Obama, that erases any gains made by Clinton.

5. I decided to change the OP to SDs for Obama only but forgot to edit the subject line
Edited on Mon May-05-08 02:12 AM by grantcart
I have now changed the subject line so it agrees with the message which is a summary for Obama Supers.

Clinton supporters are of course free to have a separate thread.

In the past when I had an inclusive thread with both Clinton and Obama super delegates some Clinton supporters would try and disrupt the thread.

At this point Obama is closing in on the magic number for confirmation so his lead over Clinton isn't that relevant.

Obama's magic number at the end of Sunday is now only 286 and to hit the Pelosi number only 137.

8. How about SD Kalyn Free this morning?

" Kalyn Free, an at-large member of the Democratic National Committee, today announced that she supports Illinois Senator Barack Obama for the party’s presidential nomination. As a DNC member, Free will serve as a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention. Free is also founder and President of INDN’s List, an organization dedicated to recruiting and training American Indian candidates. "

Here is her statement

CHICAGO, IL -- Kalyn Free, an at-large member of the Democratic National Committee, today announced that she supports Illinois Senator Barack Obama for the party's presidential nomination. As a DNC member, Free will serve as a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention. Free is also founder and President of INDN's List, an organization dedicated to recruiting and training American Indian candidates.

This brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 258. Senator Obama is 276 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

Free said she was excited to see two qualified candidates emerge from the field of Democratic contenders. "Today, I am casting my support for a new kind of leadership and a new possibility of what America can be. Barack Obama is a once-in-a-generation kind of leader and the best hope the American people have to rebuild the erosion our collective foundation has endured the last eight years. In 2008, we must elect a President who will restore our faith in the possibilities of each and every American, including the First Americans.

"As a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, I am proud of what it means to be an American Indian. I am proud Barack Obama is committed to our unique issues and willing to tackle our toughest problems, from historical inequities and injustices to contemporary issues, like protection of our right to tribal self-determination, access to health care for our elders, and education for our children. Despite the threats that have faced our culture and our people, hope has lifted Indian people through the most difficult times. Because we remain connected to our past, our culture and our communities, we never gave up that hope. American Indians need not just progressive ideas but new and visionary leadership that inspire us to build a better future for all Americans. No President alone can rebuild the American public after eight years of George Bush's disastrous policies and poisonous politics. I support Senator Obama because I believe the only way to rebuild America is to rebuild what makes us great - the hope and drive of the American people.

10. CA Clinton super delegates starting to re consider
FRESNO -- Hillary Rodham Clinton, stung last week by the defection of a prominent superdelegate, could lose the backing of more of these Democratic Party leaders and elected officials if she fails to make significant gains in the remaining month of presidential nominating contests, several California superdelegates said this weekend.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-supers5-2008may05,0,4564727.story

California superdelegates' wavering bodes ill for Hillary Clinton
Some who have supported her say they'll switch to Barack Obama if she doesn't make big gains in the remaining Democratic primaries.

Two of the five superdelegates aligned with Clinton who spoke at the annual California Democratic Convention here said they would reconsider their support if rival Barack Obama maintained his lead in elected delegates and the popular vote after the last contests on June 3.

While hardly reflecting a groundswell, the superdelegates' comments underscored the concerns among some of these officials about the drawn-out Democratic race. It follows the embarrassing defection Clinton's campaign suffered Thursday when former Democratic National Committee Chairman Joe Andrew switched his support from her to Obama, and warned that the negative tone of the campaign was becoming a "catastrophe" that would help Republicans.

Christopher Stampolis of Santa Clara, a superdelegate who endorsed Clinton after the Iowa caucuses, said that he remained in the New York senator's camp but that his commitment expired with the end of the primaries.

"When it's done, all of us, whether we're committed or not, we're going to take a look" at the final eight contests, said Stampolis, who until recently worked in external relations for a Bay Area environmental firm. "Our job is to represent the constituents who trusted us to win the White House."

Garry Shay, a Los Angeles attorney, said that if Clinton remained about 150 pledged delegates behind Obama, the current estimated margin, he would have to "reassess the entirety of the situation."

"It doesn't mandate me switching," he said, "but it does mandate me reconsidering."

Cryor, Dugas Glover to endorse ObamaBy Wally Edge
Category: President, LocalTags: superdelegates, Michael Cryor, Maryland Superdelegates, Lauren Dugas GloverTop Story: Breaking
Michael CryorState Democratic Party Chairman Michael Cryor and Vice Chairwoman Lauren Dugas Glover, both superdelegates, are endorsing Illinois Senator Barack Obama this afternoon, sources tell PolitickerMD.com.

Those close to Cryor have said he has been an Obama supporter for some time, but wished to remain neutral to help broker between dissenting factions within the state party.

After their endorsement, only 10 Maryland Democratic superdelegates will remain undecided. New York Sen. Hillary Clinton will have 11 while Obama will have 8.

Former Gov. Parris Glendening, who was selected as an add-on delegate to the Democratic National Committee Convention on Saturday, endorsed Obama over the weekend. He is also set to attend the endorsement press conference in College Park at 2:30 p.m.

Of the 99 voting members of the Maryland delegation, Obama has 50, Clinton has 39, and 10 remain unknown. A list of the state's superdelegates is below.
