Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 05:56 PM by EffieBlack
He's blowing the dog whistle so hard, EVERYBODY can hear it. Hey, Pat - why don't you drop the code language and just come out and say what you really want to say: "Be AFRAID GOOD WHITE PEOPLE. This colored man is going to seize power and THEN we'll ALL be in trouble!!! You'd better WAKE UP and stop this before it's too late!!!"

Good Lord, the man is about to burst his spleen.

At least that is what the commentators tell me. Pat Buchanan doesn't have
a crazy black accent. He speaks in soothing, dulcet tones, like Hagee --

and ZELL MILLER!

There's no double standard in America, no, not a- tall.

52. That's why they keep him on
The fear apparent in his facial expression is PRICELESS.

he's an old-line racist from way back. But he's also ascended to punditry Olympus on MSNBC, and is a guilty pleasure to watch; he's so over the top you could invent a drinking game based on his mannerisms.

We could probably partly thank Buchanan for his scary keynote speech at the republican Convention in '92 for putting Bill Clinton over the top.

"Many people did not care for Pat Buchanan's speech; it probably sounded better in the original German," Ivins in September 1992, commenting on the one-time presidential hopefuls speech to the Republican National Convention.

may be an "albatross" against the Republican neck, but then went out with his..."AND THAT'S WHY REPUBLICANS NEED TO SHOW THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT SURE THEY WANT 'THIS GUY' (Obama) RUNNING THE REPUBLIC!!" Sorry to write in caps, but that's really what Pat sounds like.

Richard Wolfe, Michelle Bernard, and Ed Shutlz just gave Pat (or the camera) death stares.

36. I don't think she's defending him
I see this as making sure we're only talking in truthful terms. I think this is something we need to be careful of when we talk about Republicans OR Democrats.

Saying and inferring are two different things... you can fudge a lot whilst inferring.

I'll not judge until I hear it or read it for myself, but when you see others in this thread making a distinction that it was inferred, I prefer to err on the side of cautious non-judgement.

Oh, and PS... be careful when you name (call out) a fellow DUer in your post...

53. Usage... see infer... ?
Main Entry: im·ply
Pronunciation: \im-ˈplī\
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): im·plied; im·ply·ing
Etymology: Middle English emplien, from Anglo-French emplier to entangle — more at employ
Date: 14th century
1obsolete : enfold, entwine
2: to involve or indicate by inference, association, or necessary consequence rather than by direct statement <rights imply obligations>
3: to contain potentially
4: to express indirectly <his silence implied consent>
synonyms see suggest
usage see infer

57. It's more blurred than I imagined, however
"imply" is preferred for clarity.

Main Entry: in·fer
Pronunciation: \in-ˈfər\
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): in·ferred; in·fer·ring
Etymology: Middle French or Latin; Middle French inferer, from Latin inferre, literally, to carry or bring into, from in- + ferre to carry — more at bear
Date: 1528
transitive verb
1: to derive as a conclusion from facts or premises <we see smoke and infer fire — L. A. White> — compare imply
2: guess, surmise <your letter…allows me to infer that you are as well as ever — O. W. Holmes died 1935>
3 a: to involve as a normal outcome of thought b: to point out : indicate <this doth infer the zeal I had to see him — Shakespeare> <another survey…infers that two-thirds of all present computer installations are not paying for themselves — H. R. Chellman>
4: suggest, hint <are you inferring I'm incompetent?>
intransitive verb
: to draw inferences <men…have observed, inferred, and reasoned…to all kinds of results — John Dewey>
— in·fer·able also in·fer·ri·ble \in-ˈfər-ə-bəl\ adjective
— in·fer·rer \-ˈfər-ər\ noun
synonyms infer, deduce, conclude, judge, gather mean to arrive at a mental conclusion. infer implies arriving at a conclusion by reasoning from evidence; if the evidence is slight, the term comes close to surmise <from that remark, I inferred that they knew each other>. deduce often adds to infer the special implication of drawing a particular inference from a generalization <denied we could deduce anything important from human mortality>. conclude implies arriving at a necessary inference at the end of a chain of reasoning <concluded that only the accused could be guilty>. judge stresses a weighing of the evidence on which a conclusion is based <judge people by their actions>. gather suggests an intuitive forming of a conclusion from implications <gathered their desire to be alone without a word>.
usage Sir Thomas More is the first writer known to have used both infer and imply in their approved senses (1528). He is also the first to have used infer in a sense close in meaning to imply (1533). Both of these uses of infer coexisted without comment until some time around the end of World War I. Since then, senses 3 and 4 of infer have been frequently condemned as an undesirable blurring of a useful distinction. The actual blurring has been done by the commentators. Sense 3, descended from More's use of 1533, does not occur with a personal subject. When objections arose, they were to a use with a personal subject (now sense 4). Since dictionaries did not recognize this use specifically, the objectors assumed that sense 3 was the one they found illogical, even though it had been in respectable use for four centuries. The actual usage condemned was a spoken one never used in logical discourse. At present sense 4 is found in print chiefly in letters to the editor and other informal prose, not in serious intellectual writing. The controversy over sense 4 has apparently reduced the frequency of use of sense 3.

....even though I don't agree with the maajority of his opinions.

Pat Buchanan is a bigot. But he stays true to his own values, and doesn't hide them when it isn't convenient for him.

What usually happens when Pat The Evil Bigot appears is that, sooner or later, he ends up swinging people to his opponent's side.

But he is a terrific and professional interviewer. He is far better than the vast majority of interviewer on the air.

39. You must mean McCain voters?
Because at the end of the day, that's all that they will be, once the Corporate media gives her a taste--if she's able to lie her way into the nomination.

In fact, believe it or not- I almost called them "temporary Hillary voters" for that very reason.

THANK YOU- you seem to be the only other DUer who realizes this-

You NAILED it my friend- if Hillary can convince them that ANY Dem is an unpatriotic elitist, then McCain/Media will have NO PROBLEM convincing them of ANYTHING.

All he needs is a few lies and a one or two tenuous associations to set them off once again...they dont call 'em "swing voters" for nothin!!!

76. Add me to the list as well.
When was the last time the currently vaunted "white blue collar vote" came through for us? Let me answer that: Not since Reagan. There are people who have been registered as Dems for decades and they have not voted for a Dem in the general for decades. Call them DINOs, Reagan Democrats, whatever. In November they ain't voting for our candidate. They're that 15 - 20% of Dems who will vote for McCain.

41. Pat Buchanan is hysterical about Obama. He is beside himself.
It's both sad and comical to watch him break out in hives over the prospect of Obama becoming president. He sputters like Porky Pig. One need only watch Pat and others like him lauding Hillary Clinton to know how much they fear THE BLACK MAN.

What a doofus!

80. Ok, here's what he's actually said.
http://buchanan.org/blog/?p=969

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks — with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas — to advance black applicants over white applicants.

MEREDITH VIEIRA: But do you personally feel that the Reverend Wright…
MICHELLE OBAMA: You know what I think Meredith? I think we gotta move forward. You know, this conversation doesn’t help my kids. You know, it doesn’t help kids out there who are looking for us to make decisions and choices about how we’re going to better fund education.

Yes, Buchanan's IRRATIONALLY scared shitless. :eyes:

When will MSNBC get rid of both Buchanan and Scarborough? - both men's perspectives are FILTHY ... undemocratic ... yes, RACIST.
