WOW! Kerry needed Edward's "wind beneath his wings to energize him!
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 06:26 PM by KoKo01
but he did a "bang up job" in NC as reported on our "local news station."

Kerry/Edwards pushed all the right buttons (if you leave out African Americans, Corporate Corruption, Senior Citzens, (Medicare), Medicare and Tax Policy Give Away's for the Wealthy, and Anti-Iraq Invasion of Iraq Protestors, and NO Bush Bashing) but they STOOD UP FOR WOMEN and they both gave a BANG UP POPULIST SPEECH!

Kerry was energizing (in 100 degree heat hear in NC) one HAS to be energizing and Edwards gave a speech that was the reason I voted and gave lots of money to him here in NC!

They have energy as a combination...but there are still folks in the Dem Party they didn't address..

My Dad WASN't a "Mill Worker." He worked this way through Georgia Tech on a "work study plan" but he would never consider himself part of the "Poverty Stricken South."

I don't consider myself as "poverty stricken." I had..(in my former life) many Repug friends who didn't understand why I was a Democrat because I wasn't "POOR!"

Dems are missing that NOT ALL THEIR CONSTIUENCIES are poor and downtrodden...but that we aren't is the difference between the success of the Repugs against the Dems in American Society.

Dems appeal to the POOREST OF US...BUT what about those of us who aren't POOR but are DEMOCRATS?

Something to think about...and why I thought Kerry/Edwards are MISSING what DEAN saw about the Democratic Party. And, Kucinich ALSO SAW!

1. You're right...but there are many more poor Democrats
than rich ones (aka, many more votes)

2. Those of us who aren't poor but are Democrats
care about helping the poor more than helping ourselves. That's why we are Democrats.

4. Exactly.
I am not poor. I have been lucky. But I care about the poor and about other issues that do not affect me directly like gay rights, abortion rights and other things. Conservatives care about themselves and everyone else can go to Hell as far as they are concerned.

8. But...I do too, or why would I be here..but does the Party Care?
We've lost the small and large business people to the Repugs..but the Dems don't talk to folks who "could employ the poor."

That's what I'm saying, here. If you say you are "Son of Mill Worker," what does it mean?

If you say my "Father was a "Manager at a Millworks" what does THAT MEAN?

9. we didn't lose Lee Iacocca (sp?)
he switched from Bush in 2000 to Kerry in 2004.

Anyway, what a weird thing to see this on DU, where DLC is a four-letter word.

6. Well Said
In fact, I remember Edwards in the primary, and one of the things he talked about was the poorest of the poor, he said many of them don't even vote, but we need to help lift them out of poverty because it is "the right thing to do" (he might have used "moral" instead of "right")

3. It's come to this: John Edwards' hair.....
Head of State By JOHN ALLEMANG

It's come to this: John Edwards' hair

Is what will give George Bush a scare.

Forget Iraq, the Kenneth Lays --

It's really Cheney's bad-hair days

That terrify the White House hawks

And make them fear that Edwards' locks

Will be the needed campaign fix

To sway the uncommitted hicks.

It's fine to say a running mate

7. Not all Democrats are Poor....but ALL Dems should CARE about the Poor!
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 06:22 PM by KoKo01
I should have "retitled my post."

We WON'T pick up folks until we get our "heads in gear." DEM Party has taken lots of "Special Interest" Money...while they pander to the poor and our "real poor" move over to Repug Party where they think they will get a voice.

NOT ALL DEMS ARE POOR...but, our Dem Politicians PANDER! Do you understand where I'm coming from here? Please.. DEMS Pander to POOR but do "limited programs" to REALLY HELP THEM! They help folks like ME..but not the REAL POOR!

13. Many economists and scholars agree that we can not have a great
country without a large middle class, and mobility up from the lower classes through hard work and education. Without the middle class we have Somalia, Saudi Arabia and many third world countries. Bush* is trying to kill the middle class, starve the lower classes, and ruin free education. All bad.

14. EXACTLY! All I heard from the "Dynamic Duo" was Health Care that
really addressed the Middle Clas and the Poor! We will all be Poor if we dont' do something about "health care and Corporate Crime!" Those who already are just getting by are without health care and the Middle Class is thrown out of jobs and put on "Cobra" for 18 months and then you are out of health care unless you get a new job or can afford the humongous premiums after "Cobra." In our case after "downsizing" private Health Care after Cobra ran out was $20,000 a year! We had to incorporate into an LLC (we have our own business because couldn't find job) and the health care cost us so much that we had to "incorporate." We reduced in to $12,000 because we knew how to do it. But, lots of folks can't go into "consulting" and set up LLC's! How can they survive? And, we had to limit alot to get the $12,000. We limited our Major Medical to get this rate. We will have to pay out of our savings/retirement if we have a huge catastrophe. After that...we would have to go on welfare.

What about those who can't?

15. Kerry and Edwards aren't poor...
so I'm thinking that they're trying to go overboard on how well they identify with the poor/those who feel poor. Obviously they're both Democrats and Kerry for one has never ever been poor--the GOP is trying to portray both of them as out of touch rich folks, they're addressing that.

Just my 2 cents.

17. Yes...Raleigh was Kerry and Edwards at their very BEST! It was great! but
what did they tell us? To look and sound great is not enough...what are they going to DO and where is the MONEY $$$$$$$'s going to come from for their programs? And just looking great (which I agree was needed since many folks think Kerry put them to sleep, was needed) but What CAN they do to change things. I didn't hear enough in their message, as thrilled as I was with the crowd who turned out in 100 degree heat and humidity...what really did they say? and how will they accomplish it?
