Hillary Clinton, the War Chick
Hillary Clinton's comments about obliterating Iran are being broadcast around the world. This article is from the Asia Times Online:

Hillary, the war chick
By Pepe Escobar

PHILADELPHIA - When that phone rings at 3am at the White House, what does a true red-blooded Madam President do? She calls her generals and orders them to "obliterate" Iran. In other words: she orders the killing of 70 million people.

snip

The (nuclear) postman never rings twice
On ABC's Good Morning America, Hillary was asked what she would do as president if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons. The premise of the question in itself is preposterous. Iran does not possess a single nuclear weapon; it is not trying to assemble a nuclear weapon (even US intelligence admits it); and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has already stressed, echoing the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, that a nuclear weapon - which implies the genocide of civilians - is "against Islamic rules". Khamenei has stressed "our nuclear bomb and our explosive powers are our faith, our youth and our people who have been present on the most difficult scenes with utmost power and faith and will continue to do so".

Hillary, anyway, was undeterred. She said: "In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them." She admits this is "a terrible thing to say", but doesn't question the much-hyped Iranian threat for the hype it truly is, adding that "those people who run Iran" need to understand her tough talk. Thus she positions herself as the sender of a wise message that "perhaps will deter them from doing something that would be reckless, foolish and tragic".

snip

Hillary's positioning spells Imperial Washington in all its glory - and hubris. Not only McCain; a president Hillary will mean more wars in the Middle East. So much for Hillary's rhetoric about "peace in the Middle East". But the real tragedy is that none of the vociferous street supporters outside the victory party rally in downtown Philadelphia, or her voters at large, are aware of the true colors of Hillary, the war chick.

2. This should show Clinton supporters that Obama supporters
don't just talk to gain an advantage but talk because Clinton is NOT the candidate for the Presidency.

The whole world will weigh in on this one. You won't hear it from MSM so don't bother looking.

5. As Hillary says, she's your girl.
Girl is nicer than chick isn't it? Girls aren't quite grown up though, they develop into chicks and then into women.

15. No.
I've been inclined to think "chick" is sexist, but I think it's more inappropriate than sexist. It's demeaning and a term that is usually applied to women, but some women take it as a compliment. I just used "old cock" to describe McCain comparatively, which is demeaning too. It may well be sexism to refer to any gender-specific slang, but then why not eliminate gender from pronouns as well? Is SHE or HE sexist? Thinking about it, language itself is sexist.

In any case, the article was more than the title. You should read it because it discusses an important issue. My guess is that the writer let his contempt for Hillary Clinton's comments reflect in a title that shows disrespect. I doubt sexism was his intent, but colloquial language is riddled with sexist phrases. To use them shows insensitivity, not necessarily intentional sexism. I don't know the author, so I can only guess at his intent. He could be a blatant chauvinist, but that is not the issue the article is about.

The article is about war and a Presidential candidate's statements about war, something we should all be paying very close attention to.

We should be adult enough here at DU to read any article that discusses serious issues without applying censorship because we don't like the language it's couched in.

17. I have a question for you.
Is bastard a sexist comment, and if so, then why? If not, then I will begin calling her the bastard since bitch is obviously sexist.

21. wow, whether she's called a "chick" is more important than the "obliteration" of 70M people?
The writer did it for effect, to show that HRC is an empty-headed "chick" at the same time she's dangerous. She talks about the massacre of 70 million people as though it were like baking a cake or mending a sock--or (if those tasks are too "sexist") changing the oil in your car or fixing the screen door. She is a war mongering piece of work without a soul, if she's willing to obliterate an entire country, easy as that.

12. Bill referred to her as a girl.
When he was whining, as in "it's easy to say bad things about a girl." Kinda lowers the bar when one candidate's husband, who happens to be a former president, makes a statement like that.

14. That depends on your perspective. And your age.
She's a relative chick compared to that old cock McCain, if you want to compare age in terms of poultry.

I don't happen to think 60 is all that old for a candidate for the Presidency. It's not Senator Clinton's age or her gender I've got problems with. It's her perspectives and the way she's run her campaign.

16. Her supporters are indeed oblivious to what a Hillary presidency would mean.
Not surprising considering that she's run a 100% Republican-style wedge-issue-and-smear campaign.
