We attended a reception in honor of my cousin's retirement last night. Most of my other cousins were there as well. Many of us had not seen each other in several years. As it often happens when a bunch of baby boomers get together, the issue of health came up.

We were comparing various ailments we had all developed, trying in a good-natured way to outdo one another. Unfortunately, I won/lost.

Anyway, out of nowhere, my 60 year old female cousin pops up and says, "I will probably have to work another 10 years, there is no way I can afford health insurance if I go early...this administration has ruined everything we had planned". And without skipping a beat, she announces she will be voting for the Democratic nominee, no matter which one it is. Now, sitting around a table with a bunch of conservative Republics whose ages ranged from 56 to 68, I was expecting at least a debate of sorts from the others. Instead, they all nodded in agreement, and proceeded to discuss the pros and cons of Clinton and Obama.

Several of these people have never voted for a Democrat before. If this is any indication of how others in their 60's are feeling, there is no way a Republican will be sitting in the White House come 2009.

... the nomination. She realizes that whatever animosity her tactics may engender, the Republicans are in such a hole that she could still possibly win the GE.

The Democrats' odds diminish with each add'l day of negative campaigning, but the Republicans have a mighty burden to overcome in November.
