Didn't your side want "unity" a few weeks ago? Gore/Obama would be an awesome ticket. VP Obama would be an excellent candidate in 8 years. No Clintons involved. Dynasty over. Anti-War. Pro-Environment. Cute enough to fuck and/or have a beer with. They would have everything going for them.

Perhaps he's BSing, but Michelle has also said that this is it for him. I don't think she wants to go through it again, which means Barack would likely not run again. It's not just about him, it's about what she's gone through during the campaign as well.

He has never closed the door on serving as President. In fact, he said in Oslo to CNN, "I haven't ruled out the idea of getting back into the political process at some point in the future. I don't expect to. But if I did get back, it would be as a candidate for president, not in any other position." ( http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0712/10/sitroom .... )

I do. So there must be some way she can win. My ignorance in the matter is clear - I defer to the master campaigner, Bill and Herself for their expertise. She's still raising money, so I wonder when I hear that lay people on DU with calculators are better at this than the Clinton political machine.
Still, you may be right. I don't know myself. I tend to think the campaign staff would know, and I'm sure if that was truly the case, the Obama camp would be trumpeting it from the hills and Hillary would have to step down.

In order for this to happen, all that needs to take place is for both Obama and Clinton to stay in and about one third of the currently undeclared super delegates to sit out the first ballot.

Do you think we could win like that? Personally I doubt it with how much coverage the national media is devoting to the race. If we had a brokered convention like that I think the response would be "WTF? We didn't vote for you." and the voters proceed to stay home in droves.

Our nominee will either be Clinton or Obama, two people who have wanted the nomination and have worked hard to get it. Gore has shown zero interest in the nomination and has said he is not interested, but so many evidently do not believe him. Besides, it will not be a brokered convention so this is, as Hillary says, speculating on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Have you completely, totally put the idea of the presidency behind you once and for all? GORE: Well, well, first of all, 60 is the new 59, so this is a new world that we're in. STAHL: So you're a young man, a young man. GORE: I doubt very seriously that I'll ever be a candidate again. STAHL: He says he's fallen out of love with politics. He's selling a cause now. No consultants telling him what to say or how to dress. GORE: We all seem to learn the most from the most painful experiences. And would that it were not so. But it is so. And the old cliche "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is sometimes true. And so, when you go through a lot, you do have an opportunity to learn a lot. And I think I've been very fortunate. All the Kucinich volunteers work, Edwards people, the others too. All for nothing. However, we're only talking here in the case where there is no clear winner and the voting produces no clear winner. At that point, none of the volunteers' work would have been fruitful, but the most popular candidate paired with Gore would reward the best candidate's efforts and respect the process.
Mind you, if that candidate happens to be Hillary, I don't think Albert will want to go along with it.... not sure, but I hear he doesn't like either of the Clintons these days.

Particularly now after PA. 9 pts just wasn't enough for Hillary to change the trajectory. There have been numerous stories about SD determination for this NOT to go to the convention. They'll let this play out until the voting ends and then they'll put someone- almost certainly Obama- over the top. Dean, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Corzine have all made that clear. And Obama needs only about 80 of the remaining SDs if he wins SC and OR as projected. It's just delusional to think that the SDs are going to wait until Denver. I've made that clear to you- repeatedly.

A draft at the Convention is certainly not out of the question. I suspect things would be worked out before hand and Obama and Clinton would be on board (or at least Obama would). If you were Obama, had the most delegates, etc., and then coming into the convention the Clintons put enough pressure on enough super delegates to get her the nomination, would you rather take the VP slot with a sure winner in Nov. (Gore) or simply get pushed aside. That might be enough incentive for Obama to get behind what would be sort of a win-win for him and keep Hillary out of the White House.

it makes my teeth hurt. This is the only way the Dems. bring some dignity and a winning candidate to the election in Nov. When looking at some of the data from the exit polls last night in PA, it seems clear that with either Clinton or Obama, a good portion of Dems. supporting their favorite candidate won't support the other one - would either stay home or vote for McShame. What has the Party devolved to when this happens. So, Gore has to be the solution. There is a Yahoo group organizing to try to lobby super delegates (see my signature line for the link). You can join there and help us; or just go there to see what we are trying to do. And, stay tuned for more information shortly on the next step in this effort.

Gore's favorability ratings beat Obama's, Clinton's, and McCain's. I think he would gather a lot of Independent support; some moderate Republicans, and a much higher number of Dems. than either Obama or Clinton. Only the political junkies (like those of us gazing at our navels here at DU) will reflect back on how Gore got there, they'll just vote for him because of his stature and positions on lots of issues - the war, universal/single payer health insurance, cleaning up the Administration, etc.

it's not within the same context. Do you actually believe that their won't be millions of black voters who will turn away if this happens? Millions of women? I think you're absolutely wrong to believe that people won't care how he got there. And it would never, ever work if both Clinton and Obama didn't support it. What reason do you have to believe that they'd simply acquiesce? I'm afraid you have a very bad case of hero worship and project it onto everyone else.

I did that yesterday.
At the hairdresser's in a town in MA that went about 65% for HC over BO and raised the possibility of a Gore draft.
People loved it.
Purely anectdotal, I know, but there is deep disillusionment about both HC and BO and Gore is highly thought of.
