Hillary's campaign is looking more and more like Edwards before he dropped out.
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 08:17 PM by Kerry2008
I remember supporting Senator Edwards, and the campaign was desperately trying to paint themselves as having a shot in hell and presenting only the positive and painting the negative as positives.

I remember when John said he was going to stay into the convention as well. I love Senator Edwards, and everything he campaigned for. But like Clinton, that line was cooked up from an advisor to rally the troops to stay on the sinking ship.

I remember the desperate crys for more money because the money was drying up, and saying it was to compete with the opponents endless amount of money.

I remember the e-mails from the Edwards campaign like I got today or yesterday from Terry McAuliffe talking about the crowds and how big they were, as if those were real signs that the campaign still has a chance. John Edwards has very good crowds before he dropped out. I know, I was at a campaign event two days before he dropped out of the race.

I'll level with the Clinton supporters. I understand why you still support her, and I understand why you're still pulling for her. I was the same way with John Edwards.

But like I have, I hope all of you come into the mix and support Barack Obama when he's the nominee.

I think he's pretty much there, we just have to make it official :)

Just some observations...

3. One big difference: Edwards' reputation wasn't shot
He may have done badly as a candidate but nobody was questioning whether his ambition was damaging the party or whether he had a strained relationship with the truth. Somehow I doubt he has a trail of unpaid vendors following his campaign either.

53. Absolutely. If anything, he pulled out a little too early.
Hillary has overstayed her welcome by at least 6 weeks.

The other difference is that Edwards didn't try to trash the other candidates. He simply made his decision and did what he had to do.

When you think about it, there are really no similarities between Edwards and Clinton.

I hope Hillary has the good sense to get out soon.

when I reflect on it, I realize I have a LOT of anger over the past two decades of defending their joint misbehavior.

Therefore, I'm pretty pissed with Bill and Hillary.

22. Edwards definately put the party first! I honestly don't believe
it was ever about political ambitions to him. He could have still pushed on but he knew he did not have a shot to win it and he knew staying in was only prolonging the inevitable. Having said that I was REALLY sad when he dropped out. I was stunned and sad. I wanted Edwards and Barack at the end. I would have felt fine supporting eirher one of them. Hillary will never get my vote.

I don't think it is DUers you have to convince since we make up about 0000000.1 percent of Dems. It's like preaching to the choir. Best to work at convincing Dems in Florida, Ohio, Michigan.

She's engaged in some pretty serious well-poisoning over the past few months. If we're going to carry those states in the fall, Hillary's going to have to go on a serious "I didn't really mean it" tour.

We never had a shot at winning florida anyway, what with the DLC running the party there -- the DLC would only support Hillary, and in the GE Hillary would lose. That's why they engineered this fight with Dean. If florida democrats bounce the turncoats who fucked up their primary I might forgive them next time around, but until I see that happen, they are dead to me.

Last IOU listed for him was just under $3 mil as of March 20th...no telling what it is up to now.

And who the hell is she going to try and bargain with to get them paid..as in "I'll drop out if you pay my campaign bills". Good luck with doing something like THAT, HRC. Just have Bill go give a speech and then hand the proceeds over to all the vendors you've $crewed over in the past few months.

16. Once she pays the nearly 8 mill in debt, once you figure how much was donated for the primary vs the
GE.... then you will have a real number. And how much will need to be refunded ? Hillary leads in refunds, 2.8 million, 3 times Obama refunds and 5 times McCains numbers.

Sorry but ending up with 6 or 7 million doesnt go very far these days.

33. More than half of the 20 million can't be spent in the primary
it's earmarked for the actual campaign.

So, cut that number in half, take out the 5 million she owes herself, and the money owed to creditors.

And she's broke.

BTW, Obama collected 40 million in the same period. None of it earmarked for the campaign. Brand new donors - who haven't reached a cap.

The future looks rosy for Obama - and not so for Clinton.

Follow the money, and it's over for the Clintons.

11. The money
Is going to be the thing that does it. As long as you have fuel you still go. I don't think she raised more than 15 million for the primary this month. There are 6 media markets in PA. It is not a cheap state to run a primary in. Not to mention the get out the vote efforts. She'll be broke going into NC and IN. I'm expecting April's numbers to be less than March.

20. She has nearly 8 mill in debt, some donations are for the GE, cant be used in the primary
so you take the 20 mill she raised in march, minus the 8 mill in debt, nearly half of the remaining is GE donations.

And John Edwards didn't have any leads in any states.

Though his poll numbers in Super Tuesday states were improving, and some of the states that voted on Super Tuesday he had a real chance to gain delegates.

When Chuck Todd, on one of the Sunday morning shows, asked the other talking heads "and what about John Edwards?", and then joined them with a round of laughter. That hurt.

populism. This, her latest morph, after she said last fall, "you don't make change by fighting or hoping for it, you get it by working for it." Wel, now she's branding herself as the working class "fighter". What fakery ! This from the supporter of NAFTA and who gladly takes more lobbyist and corporate money than the R's.

30. I went to a rally for Edwards at the end of January.
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 08:54 PM by ocelot
Actually, it was his last one -- the very next day he dropped out. But there were a whole lot of really enthusiastic people at that rally, and Edwards stated emphatically and absolutely that he was going all the way and urged the crowd to vote for him at our state's (MN) caucus on Feb. 5. There was not the faintest suggestion that he didn't intend to continue his campaign.

But the first thing the next morning, when I turned on the TV, I learned that he had just announced he was suspending the campaign, and I was dumbfounded -- not to mention damned glad I hadn't gotten around to donating more money on-line after I got home after the rally. I couldn't imagine what could have happened *overnight* to make Edwards drop out by breakfast time the next day. He must have known he was planning to quit even as he was telling us he wasn't. I was really disappointed.

So when I hear Hillary insisting she's going all the way to the convention, I'm not convinced. She is having money problems and the SDs are starting to move to Obama. I guess politicians feel they have to pretend they are staying in right to the very last minute, even if they know they aren't.

I think he saw the writing on the wall that he was going to be a spoiler, and wanted the nomination to be won by who the majority of the voters wanted it, not who got the most votes because their were 3 candidates.

The Edwards voters could have broken towards Hillary, but I think most broke for Obama putting him in great shape.
