most republicans don't understand the housing crisis affects
alot more people than just the one's who's house was foreclosed on. Whole neighborhoods and cities are suffering from drastic decreases in home values overnight. I know my home dropped more than half it's value over the last few months. Every time I hear Scarborough others saying they shouldn't get bailed out they made a bad decission, don't understand it's bringing down whole neighborhoods and affecting 100 times more people than they think.......maybe if their house dropped 60% overnight they would wake up.

1. The great depression had a great number of farm and homes foreclosed on as well.
Though, this time a lot of people shouldn't have been given a home loan, the economy isn't exactly their friend.

2. I think people will gradually realize it?
As their house goes on the market and doesn't sell.

This is a HUGE recession that America faces, and I don't envy the job whoever the next President will have to do, of course, John McSame will do nothing.

3. The government should help the People, not the rich bankers.
Just think, our country could really be working on a real solution if they had impeached bush.

Now, we get nothing. Oh--those checks that are becoming worth less as the FED devalues our money won't do a thing.

5. Well stated, so what do you suggest....
The average salary is around $35K.

It's barely enough to survive, and sure to drive people into "bad credit" situations.

And the average home is over $250K. Home owners love it. In fact, they would not complain if their homes went up in value to $10 million! But how are new buyers supposed to afford a homes at these prices?

6. my house is worth less now than 20 years ago
and it's in very good shape, took good care of it. I don't have an answer, but I'm sure we'd be alot better off if someone like Edwards was overseeing it.

7. Nope not a matter of understanding, its a matter of
if it doesn't happen to me then its just people living beyond their means causing the problem. Pukes never see a problem until its in their face and blame victims of poverty for whatever woes they face. After all they could have said no to the $100,000 house and bought the $15,000 house in the bad neighborhood, how dare they think that they could get out of a crime ridden, drug infested area. Never mind facts or try to point out that banks and loan services preyed on most of these people, just say no to a better home.

8. 30 billion dollars
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 09:37 PM by sudopod
30 billion dollars to Bear Stearns. That's worth two years of the space program. That is taxpayer money given to a privately owned company by our government with little to no public deliberation.

Think about that.

But helping out the average American who got scammed by unscrupulous loan officers? Fuck em. Not a dime for them, they should have read the fine print and they deserve what they get...according to the (R)ejects, anyway.

What is wrong with people? O_o

9. Problem is: Republicans do not care about the middle class
Or the poor, for that reason. They are mostly either wealthy corporate barons or uneducated religious bigots.

10. Republicans only care about their own pocket
but the housing crisis is beginning to hit them. It is moving into higher price ranges every day. I spoke to a Republican today about the economy and the housing crisis. He is taking a large hit on his vacation home in order to sell it. He is rooting for a Democratic President and talking that the BIG D will be here before we know it. He also realizes our problems will not be solved in a four year term. Many of them have been hit hard by the stock market and many of them are kicking themselves in the ass hard for their past 2 Presidential votes.

These past 7 years have created more Democratic members than we have realized. Most everyone but the ultra wealthy are realizing this economic crisis is going to hit them hard. It is the only reason it is being discussed on the news... They all really do know how bad this can hit home.

11. You don't think home values went down if they are republicans?
my home value dropped too, but only a few thousand dollars. Every home here did, not just dem homeowners.

That is part of the problem, inflated appraisals over the past few years and the sub prime loans. Those jumbo loans were not taken out by poor people. Why should the average Americans tax dollars bail out greedy banks that knowingly loaned money to people who bought more home than they could afford?

It is now a buyers market, the interest rate is going to drop again, the home values are down, and cuts are being made in the asking price. If you have good credit now is the time to buy.

I wish I could afford to invest in another home right now!

The good news, as I see it, because of the drop of a few thousand dollars in my home value, my property taxes will not be going up this year for the first time.

12. Republicans typically live in more expensive homes
so the crisis hasn't hit them as hard as the Dems...
