1. I am sure he's said it a million times, during the 99.999% of his sermons that
didn't get any play on TV.

2. Because you can't say, "Damn you" and then "vote for my parishioner"
So Barry's Christian identity doesn't help him with the constituency to which it would be naturally attractive. How you manage to turn a positive into a negative ... well, it's understandable that the campaign tried to conceal the relationship.

7. That's simply untrue. The Christian community largely stepped up
to defend Wright. He has that much clout. Sorry.

14. Time to stop watching Foxed Up news.
The last time I heard Rev. Wright gave a sermon, he got a standing ovation in a Catholic Church. Then there was that other DU OP with a letter signed by many ministers in support of him.

So, yes, his peers stood up for him and continue to do that.

Your "sources' are not somehow equal. They are wrong.

3. Let's get real... the reason why Rev. WRight is accountable..
to the masses and the media is because
he is not a white, Yale educated, privileged
monied drone.

If he were a white preacher in some fundie
church in Colorado, it would be no problem....

17. Exactly...
there are different standards for blacks even if they fight and die or are maimed for this country and when they come back they can't reap the same benefits as someone coming in from other countries, these same people come to this country and look down on blacks when they have given them the rights and priviledges of this country...

he's been muzzled since the tapes showed up. Nope, not a word out of him. Interesting, isn't it?

11. Military service does'nt give special
rights, being an American does. He had his right to say what he did, he must now account for what he said. Many Americans do not agree nor respect his opinions, nor do they "have" to.

who take the time to really look at the whole sermon. Plus the fact they are full of shit because they don't have a damn thing to say about Hagee and the rest.

13. Because he said "God damn America for killing innocent people."
If he had said "God damn America for teaching evolution in public schools" or "God damn America for tolerating gays" that would have been totally fine.

16. Some of us are old enough to remember the bombings of black churches.
The white churches weren't bombed.

As an independent liberal ("white male") without a portfolio in this feeding frenzy ... I get the very uncomfortable impression that it's a "dog whistle" and, quite frankly, I find it nauseating. Even on DU.

27. Many churches are still being burned, white and black.

feb 2006- The FBI joined the investigation by state and local authorities.

In 1996, race was a factor in a series of arsons that damaged rural black churches in Alabama and elsewhere. But this week’s fires were set at four white churches and one with a black congregation.

Three were destroyed, and two others were damaged.

All of the churches are Baptist; five have predominantly black congregations, and five, including Beaverton Freewill, have predominantly white membership.

I knew at some point the ratings were going to take a serious hit for doing the same thing over and over. Apparently, it has. Sorry, if that disappoints you.
