convention plans? please check in

so, pinkobuttons would like to go to the conventions. i am pretty sure i will make it to nyc. i have friend i can crash with, and the family had been planning a driving trip to new england the end of august anyway. so, i am looking for specific days/events to attend. i don't think i can be there for the whole 4 days. what would ya'll suggest?
so, i feel like i NEED to go to nyc, but i would LIKE to go to boston. i have frequent flier miles that i could use to get there, (if seats are available), but i can't afford to spend a lot to stay there. suggestions? if there were a few other midwesterners that would want to drive, i have a nice camper. dunno if that is practical.
