I'm not entirely convinced that such a question isn't asked without a motive behind it.

At least that is what I hope it is....

He brought this up himself in a speech in PA. All the chatter is just reaction to his statement

That he must have been dealing drugs or something
What's the most pathetic about that line of attack is that plenty of people live on less than that. It just goes to who how out of touch and desperate the mud slingers are.

8. The poster is unfamiliar with graduate students and post docs
and people doing internships who manage to get by on amazingly shitty salaries - Chicago is not cheap. I imagine Obama was married at the time or had roommates or ate Ramen noodles. The insinuation is smarmy. The poster is without a clue.

9. Entitled people don't think it's possible.
People who haven't ever "lived poor" honestly think it's impossible, and thus, whoever says such a thing is lying, or actually on welfare, or otherwise hiding money, or some such.

Keep in mind, the Clinton campaign was also trying to say that people making over 100K a year were "middle class". They have no sense of reality left, they've been rich for far too long.

They no longer remember looking for change in old purses, checking pay phone slots on the bus ride and walk home, the many ways to season Ramen, only heating one room in the house, or only ever purchasing new clothes for the very, very, special occasions.

11. GOP motive...
...to tell lies of course!

Here is what the GOP will say:

He wasn't honest about all the money he earned.

He was getting a secret fund from someone.

He is "ghetto".

He must have cheated on his welfare.

And on and on....

Gee, who could come up with such a brilliant strategy!? :sarcasm:

12. Yes, a shrillbot
pushing the drug-dealing, pimp, burgler, welfare-collecting meme.... Sad their candidate sucks so bad they've resorted to desperate measures and hillaryesque lying - however, hearing their shrill cries as their candidate swirls down the toilet is quite entertaining. It'll all be over soon - SDs don't like her scorched earth campaign, she's run out of money, and shortly it will be mathmatically impossible for her to pass BO in pledged delegates. Another public crying jag, caught in a few more lies and election tampering, a visit from the elders, and she'll announce her withdrawal from the campaign. I give it 4 more weeks.

Especially when you read that poster's replies to folks in his/her thread.

And since my family - my husband, 2 babies, and I - lived on far less after getting out of the military and going back to school, I REALLY resent those insinuations. Disgusting.

I should have told him/her so. Thanks for the opportunity to do so here. :)

curiosity to find out what that means in todays dollars...I am no intellectual heavyweight, but "the google" is your friend...
according to the federal reserve bank of Minneapolis (http://woodrow.mpls.frb.fed.us/index.html ), 10000 1983 dollard is equal to slightly under 21K 2007 dollars...(his actual salary was 10000, he was given 2000 to buy a car http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070826/3obam... ), but I think questions like that are never because the person actually wants an answer, they only want to insinuate and smear!
