Obama said his parents met during Selma march -- 4 years after
he was born!

"Barack Obama has promised a new kind of politics. Unfortunately, he has the same problems with calculating birth dates as Hillary does. In his speech commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the march on Selma, Alabama, he credited the march with his existence -- even though he was almost 4 years old at the time."

It's true!

Actually, it's not. But I'm sure someone in Hillary's family passed this fib along to her, just as someone in Obama's family passed the Selma march idea onto him.

How many of your family stories have you later found were stretched just a *bit*. More than a few, over here.

10. What idiocy.
He did NOT say they met at a Selma march. They met as students at the University of Hawaii. That's in his book and every other biography.

Selma is a symbol of that era -- and that's all he was saying in his speech at Selma.

62. where does it say they met at Selma?
"This young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose great great-great-great-grandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that the world as it has been it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child. There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Alabama."

Kind of a stretch there to say he said they met at the march. :wtf:

38. A family story told to Obama is different from HRC making up sniper lies...
Edited on Sat Mar-29-08 05:02 PM by PoliticalAmazon
Over years, family stories often change, and this type of mistake isn't unusual. Hillary Clinton herself gave an incorrect source for her name "Hillary," as beomg Sir Edmund Hillary's ascent to Mt. Everest which didn't happen until after she was born. This also was likely the result of a family story handed down.

That is entirely different from Hillary Clinton flat-out lying, on multiple occasions, about being under sniper fire. By making the experience a cheap campaign trick she has insulted not only McCain but other soldiers who really did suffer sniper fire.

Anyone have a specific quote?

Obama has repeatedly stated that his parents met while in college.

Note to Malkin and her readers - what Obama said in his speech was that the greater civil rights struggle (which began in the 1950's) made his parents relationship possible.

While I'm sorry that Malkin and her "readership" (I use the word loosely) are used to listening to juvenile sound-bites from man-child we have in office, I would urge them to learn from past experience. READ people! READ for yourselves! And if you have a problem with comprehension, find an adult or a liberal to help you decipher what it is that you're reading.

Seems there were a couple of inaccuracies in Obama's speech that day...

He claims his father came to the US as a result of an "airlift" JFK planned to bring young African American men to the US to study. But Obama was born a year before Kennedy became President and his father came to U of Hawaii in 1959 - during Eisenhower's term of office.
