You don't have to like Barack Obama
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 04:41 PM by lynyrd_skynyrd
You only have to accept that he is the Democratic nominee.

His health care plan is terrible.

He supports the death penalty.

He is against gay marriage.

He seems all too willing to "work with" the Republicans on too many issues.

But he's the nominee. Just because Clinton wants to run again in 2012, it doesn't change that fact. The infighting in this forum ought to have ended after Clinton lost Texas and barely squeaked out a victory in Ohio, if not weeks before then.

So do yourselves a favor and ignore the trolls stirring the pot. Let it sink. And attack Clinton like there was no tomorrow, because she is little more than a Republican at this point.

10. In limited cases...
When 'the crime is so heinous that mere imprisonment cannot reflect the public's wrath', to paraphrase.

So basically, for child-murderers, serial killers, cop killers, etc.

But he has worked tirelessly to ensure the death penalty be mediated fairly and rarely. As you may have heard, this has been a big issue in IL for some time.

or her supporters like there's no tomorrow. She's (and they) are Democrats, too, you know.

4. Hillary said her plan could require up to 10%
of your income to pay for insurance, that may not provide a real prescription benefit, that may still require co-pays and deductibles, that may still have limits built into the insurance policies. That's right. Ten percent of your income for shitty insurance. And you'll be forced to pay it.

7. Can you back up all 3 of your claims please?
I thought he was for full repeal of the defensive marriage act while Hillary is not.

He has been working to prove the innocence of people on death row

His health care plan is 95% similar to Hillary's. By the time they get through congress the plans would be almost identical.

Gay rights

Decisions about marriage should be left to the states. (Oct 2007)
Homosexuality no more immoral than heterosexuality. (Oct 2007)
Ok to expose 6-year-olds to gay couples; they know already. (Sep 2007)
Has any marriage broken up because two gays hold hands? (Aug 2007)
We need strong civil unions, not just weak civil unions. (Aug 2007)
Legal rights for gays are conferred by state, not by church. (Aug 2007)
Disentangle gay rights from the word "marriage". (Aug 2007)
Gay marriage is less important that equal gay rights. (Aug 2007)
Gay rights movement is somewhat like civil rights movement. (Aug 2007)
Let each denominations decide on recognizing gay marriage. (Jul 2007)
Supports health benefits for gay civil partners. (Oct 2006)

Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 05:55 PM by lynyrd_skynyrd
But here you go.

Obama does not support gay marriage, though he does support civil unions.

http://lesbianlife.about.com/od/lesbianactivism/p/BarackObama.htm

Although Barack Obama has said that he supports civil unions, he is against gay marriage

Obama supports capital punishment in "heinous cases".

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/08/AR2007020802262_pf.html

But he supports capital punishment in cases "so heinous, so beyond the pale, that the community is justified in expressing the full measure of its outrage by meting out the ultimate punishment."

Obama's health care plan is 95% similar to Hillary's. You said it, and you're right. Neither plan is tax payer funded single payer universal health care. Hence my labeling it as "terrible".

23. Cheater.. it also says this about Obama's gay marriage stance
"He said he would support civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, as well as letting individual states determine if marriage between gay and lesbian couples should be legalized."

That's from the same link you posted. Just a little dishonest, posting just the parts of the article that support your claims.

Letting states decide is not "against" gay marriage, for Obama it's a way to compromise his religious beliefs with his political beliefs...

24. Sorry
That's not enough. There is no compromise when it comes to full equality for everybody. Being an advocate of gay marriage means supporting it across America without exception.

To support him. I hate a few Clinton supporters and I have little to no respect for Hillary. I will still vote for Hillary if for no other reason than being selfish. I want the SCOTUS to swing left not right. In the hands of McCain I know it will swing right. With Hillary, and especially with Obama I have hope.

Obama supporters can go to hell! Oh wait, I'm one of them. Scratch that.

Seriously though. If you don't want to vote for Obama for the political reasons, that's fine. But no one should vote for another candidate because of the idiot supporters on DU or elsewhere.

What utter silliness... attack her... because she's not the nominee? If you're so sure Obama's got it locked, then she should be an afterthought at this point.

Logic!

25. Premature and divisive
Clinton is still in it to win it and so are her supporters. Crap like this just pisses them off and does nothing to earn Obama any votes. If the tables were turned and someone posted something like this about Clinton being the nominee and me "having" to accept her, I'd be so mad that I'd be really tempted to withhold my vote. Please consider deleting or revising this.
