Nelson's odds rise as ticket partner
BY LESLEY CLARK

[email protected]

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson's stock in the vice-presidential sweepstakes is said to be on the rise.

As reported in the New York Post -- under the headline Kerry's Juicy Option -- Nelson has shot to fourth place as a vice-presidential contender, according to the strategists who compile the odds for Campaigns & Elections magazine.

But the freshman senator, who has energetically campaigned alongside John Kerry in Florida, said Monday that the Kerry campaign has yet to check out his credentials.

''To my knowledge they haven't asked any of my people for any of that stuff,'' Nelson said, adding that though his ``life is an open book . . . I would know if they asked for any of those records.''

2. He had a heck of a good win for the Senate seat, kind of a stealth thing.

4. Do we need two
Florida Senate seats up for grabs in Jeb Country? I think that the Senate is important....we need it! What good is Kerry winning if he can't get a damn thing done?

Nelson needs to stay where he is. It's more helpful to the Democratic cause, IMO!
