Obama's superdelegate indicted- One Degree of Seperation
"Puerto Rican Gov. Anibal Acevedo-Vila and twelve others have been charged in a sealed indictment by U.S. authorities on "18 counts in a long-running campaign finance probe."

According to the March 27, 2008:

U.S. Department of Justice Office of Public Affairs press release:

Puerto Rico Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila and 12 associates in Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., and the Philadelphia-area have been charged in a 27-count indictment unsealed today and returned by a grand jury in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 24, 2008, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez of the District of Puerto Rico announced today.

The defendants face charges ranging from conspiracy, false statements, wire fraud, federal program fraud and tax crimes related to campaign financing for the governor's 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 campaign for Resident Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and subsequent 2004 gubernatorial campaign.

According to the indictment, the defendants conspired to defraud the United States and violate various Federal Election Campaign Act provisions by having Puerto Rico businessmen make illegal and unreported contributions to pay off large and unreported debts stemming from Acevedo Vila's 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 campaigns for Resident Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Payments were made principally to the public relations and media company for the campaigns. The illegal actions continued into 2003, due to the significant debt accumulated by the campaigns, some of which was also concealed from the FEC and the public.

http://www.rezkowatch.blogspot.com/2008/03/one-degree-of-separation-obama_27.html

Acevedo-Vila, a superdelegate for 2008 presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), endorsed Obama in February 2008.

UPDATE:

The Associated Press reported in November 2007 that, after making a campaign stop in St. Thomas, where "more than 100 supporters" attended a "one-hour reception that cost up to $2,300 to attend", Obama "flew to Puerto Rico for a short meeting with Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila and to greet about 100 people at a fundraiser in the colonial district of Old San Juan. Additionally, before the visit Obama had already "collected $37,200 in campaign cash from territory residents who gave amounts exceeding $200, the threshold for itemizing donations, according to the Washington-based Center for Responsive Politics. Smaller contributions do not have to be itemized, and impossible to track."

Robert Friedman wrote March 3, 2008, in the San Juan Star:

Acevedo Vila's boast that Obama incorporated into his recent letter to the governor "almost everything" they discussed during the latter's fund-raising visit to Puerto Rico, including the senator's "strict neutrality" regarding territorial commonwealth, raises questions regarding Obama's capacity to, make serious legal judgments, according to a Puerto Rican Independence Party official.

The PIP chimed in once more on the letter, charging that by supporting commonwealth "on equal footing" with the other status options, Obama showed "a lack of knowledge regarding U.S. constitutional and international law, or his willingness to ignore the law for the sake of political expediency."

...now I wonder just who those campaign contributions were collected for? Is there a possibility a secret indictment is coming down implicating Obama and the reason for the "RUSH" to get Hillary out of the race, so Obama can be named the Dem nominee? If so, how is that going to work out.

Obama will further tarnish the Dem presidential nomination ensuring a loss to the Republicans once again.

We know (or at least should suspect by now) that DOJ, FBI and even Cheney himself, for Chrissakes) are using intelligence to target the dems. They need to be squeaky clean.

Police: Clinton Aide to Plead Guilty

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — A senior adviser to Democratic presidential candidate
Hillary Rodham Clinton has agreed to plead guilty to drunken driving after
the arresting officer was ordered to Iraq making a trial on a more serious
charge impossible, police said Monday.

Under the plea, Sidney Blumenthal, a journalist and former White House
adviser to President Clinton, will lose his right to drive for 16 months.

116. Or perhaps, just as with Rezko, Obama better start donating more campaign dollars to charity.
Obama's biggest problem with stuff like this is that it takes him far too long with way too many iterations of what really happened in those smoke-filled back rooms.

If he and his supporters would have any hopes in the General Election, Obama needs to consruct his response correct the first time, and not have Chicago newspapers scream out from bold type for the truth from Obama.

35. Tellurian is (probably) not a Democrat
The name itself is spawned from the RW science fiction of E E "Doc" Smith and L Ron Hubbard. The site that Tellurian advertises - Hillary is 44 - is a particularly nasty one that specialises in hit pieces on Obama. Person of Tellus is clever enough to avoid overt racism but check back through some past posts that have denigrated Obama.

I could of course be wrong about Tellurian's political affiliations; there seems to be a worship of Hillary that goes beyond mere partisanship into outright adulation and that sort of thing can lead people into all supporting groups they are not at home with.

I treat others as THEY treat others, and Tellurian has pissed on many here, for a long time. Any source is ok if it smears a Democrat she doesn't like. Any comment is ok if it's a supporter of someone she doesn't like. Perhaps you should scold HER instead of defending her.

Lastly, I don't need a lecture from someone who has been here 3 weeks. If you don't like it I suggest YOU employ the Ignore feature.

24. Superdelegates come and go, but this indictment is more troubling for PA politicians.
Governor of Puerto Rico and Twelve Others Indicted for Election Related Crimes

Casey matched Rendell's fund-raising, but still lost the primary. Soon after, Feldman became one of Rendell's four finance cochairmen.

Providing access

Feldman's ability to deliver $25,000, $50,000, and sometimes $100,000 donations, seemingly with ease, confounded his rivals. The beneficiaries marveled at it.

"He was one of those guys who didn't do a lot of posturing or a lot of talking. He just came in with checks," said Shawn Fordham, Street's campaign manager in the 2003 race.

Flashy - he and Ron White rode chaffeured Mercedeses with their initials imprinted on the license plates - but also intensely private, Feldman rarely talked about his consulting business, political associates say.

In newly filed court documents, Feldman gave some details about his life as a top political dealmaker.

Thanks for posting the remembrances.. There never was a conviction of any of the above charges. This is what we call vetting our candidates. Hopefully, Obama will submit to the same process. Rezko is just a prelim in the vetting process. We have until August to decide a candidate. Theres no rush and no reason on earth Hillary needs to get out of the race!

102. None of them for the Clintons.. in spite of a hyperactive prosecutor..
We has a similar incident in my home state in RI called "Plunder Dome". You find corruption at all levels of municipal and state governments. Google Chicago Corruption and you'll find the same thing. Obama has had very little scrutiny when it comes to Campaign Finance and Federal projects he's been involved in with Rezko. He is already collapsing under the weight mentioned in the OP under UPDATE.. That is the degree of separation between Obama and the scandal. The Clintons` survived and were designated squeaky clean by the Special Prosecutors.

The question is, will Obama? We don't know yet.

104. The point is, the OP is alleging guilt by association.
If that's guilt by association, what does it say about the Clintons? They've got close ties to more than a dozen people convicted of crimes. I only put down the Whitewater-related convictions. There are also campaign financing convictions and Bill's brother's drug conviction. There are fishy things still going on in Clintonworld, as well. Of course, since the tax returns are still under wraps we can only speculate.

122. You do know the difference between apples and oranges...yes?
The Clintons trial and tribulations have been over for 10 yrs. They were NEVER found guilty of any wrong-doing.

Obama's name appeared on a witness list just the other day for an ongoing trial for a 20 yr associate of his charged with a Laundry List of criminal acts...one of which is a charge of breaking Federal Campaign Finance Laws..possible money laundering of money derived from foreign countries. This Trial is expanding exponentially. Meaning, for every rock they look under, 5 more people are indicted with no end in site. If Obama is involved, it wouldn't be guilt by association.. it would be "linkage".. if it is found the common thread throughout the Rezko indictment is Anton Rezko's 20 year association with Obama. (At least this is my understanding of what is going on..) The bottom line is..it's too soon to tell. From others I've spoken to, they're telling me... this is the tip of the iceberg.

If anyone cares to add or correct my extrapolation of what is happening in the Rezko Trial, please feel free to do so here.
