A great article on Scarborough and Buchanan!
Why Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan?

It is nice of you to continue to add to your biased coverage of Barack Obama and a respected member of the African American clergy in the Chicago area. Joe Scarborough, the person who supported an IRS investigation into the NAACP, Joe Watkins, a Black conservative who is hardly representative of African Americans, Pat Buchanan, the racist who told a Black woman to "shut up" and never apologized were three members of a supposedly balanced panel. Two bigots and a Black Republican who are most partial in their view in the Democratic Party and whose party will gain from the downfall of Obama and the elevation of Hillary Clinton. You also found a Reverend who absolutely does not seem to represent Black America. He is another stool pidgeon to represent the White view you want to present.

The only person who came close to presenting an unbiased view was Sally Quinn. All I heard from Republicans Buchanan, Watkins, and Scarborough was how devastating this was to Barack Obama's campaign. Sounds like a Republican campaign advertisement to me and it sounds like if you say something enough times the people will believe it. I don't want to leave out Jonathan Capehart another example of a Black person who is not in touch with the African American community--I don't think the average African American is an avid reader of the Washington Post.

I and many others have been disappointed in the coverage of Barack Obama and his campaign. The fact that your panel consists of two of the biggest bigots and racists proves the point. This is why my viewing of MSNBC has been reduced to watching Keith Olbermann and little else on your channel. Your news has become one sided and extremely biased. The powerful elitists who control our media have given us some of the weakest anchors, panels, contributors and news personalities ever.

Too bad you chose to place all White people in the same biased, bigoted group with the likes of Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan. Your choices prove the racial issues in this country will continue for a long time because White America still does not understand how Black America thinks and why they think that way. When are White people going to be called out like Obama has? When is White America going to answer for their role in race relations? When are Hillary Clinton and John McCain going to be called out like Obama? That's what I thought...

The disappointment is profound.

Sincerely,

Mary Johnson

2. Here are the comments.
Public Discussion (7)MaryGJOnce again the great divide and disconnect from the main stream media.
0!#1 - Tue Mar 18, 2008 11:08 AM EDTMaryGJJust tuned back in to see what the panel was saying. Of course Pat Buchanan found a way to continue to bring down Obama. It is striking how Pat could be so divisive himself. Looking at Pat and listening to him all I can think is this is a White man who grew up in Alabama and was probably one of the people who helped to shape the negative views of African Americans. Pat Buchanan is truly stuck in the past and cannot see past his own racist views to a brighter future for America.
0!#2 - Tue Mar 18, 2008 11:39 AM EDTMaryGJJonathan you may be redeeming yourself. Joe Scarborough you are a Republican first and foremost and it always shows.

Yeah Joe give Pat the cynical question. Turning now because I do not want to hear the negativity of Pat Buchanan. Here comes the but from Pat. Pat Buchanan continues to show his southern White racist, bigot roots. He is the devil we know definitely not in the closet...

Pat Buchanan represents the element of the country who do not believe in the ability of this country to overcome our differences. Pat Buchanan IS the past and IS the reason we have difficulty moving forward.

Young people it is time to come together to move beyond the issues that divide us and work on those issues that will bring us all together.

Yes, Joe this is a historic speech. When has a presidential candidate EVER addressed the racial in these terms from such a unique position?
MaryGJPat is at it again. Misinterpreting what Obama said. He keeps up with his negatives. What a class act racist Buchanan is.

Thank you ZZ Packer from HuffingtonPost.

I wonder what Pat and Bay Buchanan say behind closed doors. From his comments I can just imagine.

Nothing like having a bigot talk about race relations in America. No Pat he was not trying to end the discussion he opened it up for discussion.

What a naysayer Pat Buchanan is. His bogotry is showing again...
fxgillisMary:

Here's the thing. Obama was never, ever going to satisfy Pat Buchanan no matter what. And, truth to tell, anything Obama said would've satisfied Sally Quinn. Nothing either of them said matters.

But the fact is, if you and I are watching the same MSNBC and the same Sally Quinn, Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough, Obama blew Scarborough's socks off. Yeah, he's mumbled a few picky things but he can't go all Andrew-Sullivan in gushing.

Joe Scarborough is the kind of person and represents the audience Obama was hoping to reach. And he did.
MaryGJFair enough J. But Joe has a tendency to change his position depending on who he is talking to. I have heard Joe give Obama props but I have also heard him get pretty disparaging too when talking with the conservatives the likes of Pat Buchanan.

There is "hope" though and let's build on that...

Thanks J.
EDTMaryGJUpdate 5:00 p.m. Central

Someone must have told Republican Joe Scarborough not to forget what he is first and foremost--A REPUBLICAN. Oh he gave some kudos but like the Republicans I have heard all day they manage to get back to a negative regarding the speech and not give him any credit. Negative, Negative--NO WE CAN'T.

They even got Ken Blackwell who gave the presidential race in 2004 to Bush after disenfranchising his own people. Of all people to question about Obama you pick this thief who seems to relish dissing another Black.

There are some Whites who will never vote for a Black man so be it. Keep on pushing Hillary Clinton and her arrogant husband Bill Clinton who is a complete and total LIAR.

6. I sent this thread to Gregory with a few comments of my own FWIW...
I wish you'd all do likewise, or write one of your own. This is infuriating.

Me, and a whole lot of people like me, feel the way the woman at the link feels. Have you ever given the bona fides of Reverend Wright? Have you ever aired an unedited version of a speech by the Reverend? Heck, have you ever even seen one? YouTube is full of them.
Have you ever shared the story of him at the bedside of LBJ when he was in the hospital, or disclosed that Wright was a counsel for Bill Clinton in his 'time of need'? Have you ever shared with your viewers the three presidential commendations Wright has been rewarded with? And have you told anyone he's cancelling appearances because there have been death threats against him?
Why are you so biased against Obama? Wright made some objectionable comments; do you ever point out whose mouth they came out of (HINT: not Obama's)?
In closing, I'll share the text of Wright's eulogy where some of the current comments came from. Please do your job and stop being so obvious; it's being noticed and as the writer of the letter above noted, I'll be changing channels, too.

8. Gregory's show makes me think MSNBC is low on money.
Except for their "rotating woman" spot, they are recycling their same old prepaid hacks.

I like Eugene Robinson just fine, but on every program?

25. Gregory's show is really pathetic. Maddow needs to refuse to appear on it and stick to
commenting for Keith and Tweety. She needs to refuse to appear with Buchanan or Scarborough.

Scarborough kept shouting her down. She was good natured about it, but he was a big bully the whole time.

7. You, go, Mary!
Every time I see Pat Buchanan on one of those panels, I think to myself "Yeah, I want to hear Buchanan's take on race this afternoon."

I also want to hear Domino Sugar Co's take on low-carb diets.

And what Hitchens thinks of religion.

And Hatfields, McCoys.

and he's just stayed there. I think the racist part just came along with him, but isn't why he was hired.

Cnn has Lou Dobbs, Msnbc has Scarborough, and Buchanan, Faux has well you have to be racist to work for that network. No explanation needed.
