RNC ad compares Kerry to Cicada!!!!
See : http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-trailmix16may16,1,2507969.story?coll=la-headlines-nation

(yes, registration required).

What do John F. Kerry and Brood X, the swarm of cicadas buzzing to life along the East Coast after 17 years underground, have in common?

More than meets the eye, according to an Internet spot released Friday by the Republican National Committee.

The 60-second jab at Kerry features footage of the large, winged insect wriggling out of its old skin.

A voice-over compares several of Kerry's votes from 17 years ago — some in opposition to his stances today — to a cicada shedding its shell.

What next, an ad featuring a steaming dog turd, noting similarities to the candidate?

How do these people come up with this stuff?

I swear, reality has outstripped The Onion.

1. That kind of thing backfired big time
against Rudy Boschwitz when he was challenged by Senator Paul Wellstone. That's really sinking to a new low (apparently there isn't a bottom for Repukes) and show how desperate they are.

2. OK what is that supposed to mean?
He's changed his mind over 17 years! He used to take stands we disagree with or whatever! I guess that just means we should vote for Bush* instead, who we really disagree with now!

3. This will go over like...
the dead bugs in Tom DeLay's background. Just flinging more inconsequential mud.

The real mud -- the meaningful mud -- lives in BushCo's torture, non-existent WMDs, and the "invisibile" body bags coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan -- you know, the body bags filled with our young men and women who were sent to war and sacrificed based on blatant lies, the same body bags that Bush will not let the American people see (no has he attended one funeral service yet for any of our soldiers).

Sheesh. Talk about unpatriotic.

4. I'm not quite sure why this kind of thing isn't countered
with shrub's flip flopping. I would love to see Move On do it, have shrub saying one thing, followed by the opposite, just going back and forth like that, or "mission accomplished" photos of Iraq in flames...nothing horrible, just bombed buildings and stuff burning.

9. They should use the piece that Jon Stewart did,
with the debate between Gov. GWB and resident GWB. Talk about flip flopping.

11. yeah, crunchy
that was a great one! I've learned that ANYTHING this administration says is the opposite of what the truth is: Clear Skies, praising programs just before cutting funding, "I'm a truth teller." Why, we could just go on and on....

6. Kerry should run an ad on the Hipocritimus
An elephant-like creature that wallows in the mud and can't remember what it stood for 3 years ago. To wit-

Gee, do you think this misadministration even bothered to read their Party's platform?

The following quotes are drawn from the Republican Party Platform at the 2000 convention (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/conventions/republican/features/platf... ):

"The arrogance, inconsistency, and unreliability of the administration's diplomacy have undermined American alliances, alienated friends, and emboldened our adversaries."

"Gerrymandered congressional districts are an affront to democracy and an insult to the voters. We oppose that and any other attempt to rig the electoral process."

"Nor should the intelligence community be made the scapegoat for political misjudgments. A Republican administration working with the Congress will respect the needs and quiet sacrifices of these public servants as it strengthens America's intelligence and counter-intelligence capabilities and reorients them toward the dangers of the future."

8. they're trying to divert attention from the Bush flip-flops...
which are just so damning that if the media ever reported on them aggressively Bush would not have a chance in hell, because they really are politically opportunistic flip flops, not rethinking positions over a long period of time.

Bush is a flip-flopping bastard!

12. Interesting variation on a "yellow dog democrat"
Edited on Sun May-16-04 07:04 PM by DBoon
"If a republican ran against a steaming dog turd, I'd vote for the turd"

On Edit: That would make an interesting DU avatar!!
