Since we're not leaving Iraq anytime soon, why not grant it statehood?
Congress would be livened up a bit - we'd have 210 Republicans, 200 Democrats, and 25 Ba'athists.

The first two years of the LBJ Presidency were the best two years of any Presidency in history. Better than FDR, better than Kennedy, better than anybody.
In those two years, LBJ gave us the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act, Medicare, Medicaid Food Stamps, TANF, began the War on Poverty, etc. Vietnam was obviously the great overriding issue, and I think he would have been the first to admit it - those who worked closely with him in 1967 and 1968 report his profound sense of guilt for what he had done, and most biographers believe it drove him to drink, depression and an early grave. But the rest of his record is amazing. If I were from Texas, I would be proud to be from the state that produced Lyndon Johnson.

We may have to set up a get-out-the-vote effort. Something's seriously wrong if Bush breaks 8%.
