On Wright: Anderson Cooper said last night it was "obvious" Hillary was reading from notes
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 12:26 PM by RiverStone
Anderson implied her Wright story resurrection was not simply an off the cuff response to a reporter, but a prepared response which was devised ahead of time.

Do you think Hillary did this on her own, or is she being driven by a campaign management team gone mad? Her response was so obviously a transparent attempt at distraction from her Bosnia misstatements, that it is hard to believe she alone would make such a gross tactical error.

If she further chooses to hammer Obama on a story already vetted and rested, IMO she will bring out the Super Delegates in force to end the race before Pennsylvania. Her choice or maybe she has lost her political instincts along the way?

I don't want to see the sound political legacy that Hillary built be tattered and torn beyond repair by the time she drops out - but I'm afraid she does not even know who to listen to anymore.

On Edit: It would be best if Hillary's exit left enough good will among the Dem electorate to invite her to be part of an Obama administration or as a leader in the Senate; however, that window of opportunity is rapidly closing.

1. I noticed that
her eyes kept looking down as if reading.

2. Hillary always reads from notes. She's never spontaneous.
They probably ran it through a couple of focus groups before she said it.

19. She wasn't reading from notes when she was
lying about the sniper fire in Bosnia.

since December

3. I think Hillary Clinton is being helped by special interests... Republicans as well as...
her bad management team. Look at how she's run her campaign and compare it to Obama. She is starting to look CRAZY. I can't differentiate her from a Neo-Clown at this point.

13. And her husband isn't helping her, either.
Each time he pops up in public lately, he embarrasses her. Yesterday, he once again reverted to his M.O. of browbeating a reporter when she asked him a question he wasn't comfortable with. He should never wag his finger again.

Both of them remind me of Bush and Cheney respectively.

However, he seems to have lost much of his old magic. Wonder why that is?

32. Absolute power corrupts absolutely --- so it was said.
I always held Bill in great regard for the fantastic job he did as president (even with Monica).

One would think with ALL he has enjoyed, that would be enough. The Clinton's desire to power grab even more of the political brass ring is something I don't get personally, but it seems they need it.

5. Does anyone believe that candidates don't have everything prepared?
Candidates don't get stumped anymore. They have prepared answers for everything. Clinton could have written a different answer. Instead she chose to take a swipe. No qualifying statements included.

9. answering a question badly
If this is the case then let's hope that some foreign dignitary doesn't pop a surprise question to her. Her "knee jerk reaction" will wind up insulting them and damaging our reputation even farther.

18. Read or not...
Using race baiting emotions to drive a wedge between Obama and the populous is a terrible tactic.

I've at least been glad Hillary stayed above that, till last night.

My comments on the (is it being read) part simply point to this being such a bad decision, it is hard to fathom as shrewed a politician as she would stoop so low. She has plenty on her plate defending the Bosnia statements alone, bringing Wright up seems either really stupid or the last attempt of a dying campaign to win with divisiveness.

It will only dig her political grave deeper.

8. I've been loathe to ask but
I just can't stand it anymore --

Is this regarding to something Hillary said while she was addressing the Bosnia "mistake"? If so, what did she way? I've totally missed it and don't click on the Wright threads.

Thanks!

25. Didn't hear those --
after a while it all seems to mush in my brain.

Just on the surface of it, I'm inclined to believe her. She's not known for her loyalty and if her association got in the way of her political ambition, I think she'd be out the door.

27. The point is that
yesterday she did her best to bring the Wright controversy back to the forefront, while hoping that the Bosnian snipper fire story may fade as a result. Very transparent and very sickening IMHO.

10. I don't know, but she looked really bedraggled (for her) at that presser.
Just slightly unkempt and tired-looking. When your whole campaign's focus becomes daily negative mud-slinging rather than positive self-promotion, it must be grueling and dispiriting. She stopped selling herself a while ago. She's selling Obama's destruction now.

At the very least it was a question she was expecting someone would bring up and she had already written comments to say.

21. On MSNBC, they said the presser remarks were carefully tailored
to match the Scaife paper remarks she said earlier. This wasn't an off-the-cuff answer to a spontaneous question, this was a carefully planned angle of attack to get Wright back in the news. It was probably the reason for the whole presser, actually. Remember, she's out of money and needs the free media to spread her attacks for her.
