1. These numbers are completely bogus

You are only counting the major party vote. The fact is, no Democrat since Jimmy Carter has won an outright majority of the popular vote. And no Democrat since LBJ was won in a landslide (i.e., 55% or more of the popular vote). The Republicans, on the other hand, have won two elections in landslides (1972 and 1984) and received a solid majority of the popular vote in 1988.

The fact is that, election after election, the Democrats fails to reach the 50% threshhold pretty much guarantees that this election will remain close -- close enough for Ralph Nader, who is the only notable third party candidate this time around -- to siphon off enough votes to reelect Bush.

2. This is a new year. Kerry will get 53% minimum.

The emerging Dem majority.

Dems are united, energized.
Repukes are deserting Bush.
Independents going for Kerry.
Young Naderites will go for Kerry.

It won't be close.
