If Rev. Jeremiah Wright were twins,
two Wrights would still not make a wrong.

I haven't heard anything from him that I really take exception to. His language may not be exactly what I would have used, but his message is deadly accurate.

6. Rev. Wright is a good man and very well thought of. If people would listen to
the beginning of those videos and hear the context of his words, they would understand where he's coming from. But no, they just want to castigate and judge him be a few sound bytes played ad nauseam. The longer version, in context, have been posted on DU many times, but some people won't take the time to listen to them. They want to be judge and jury and don't have the facts.

8. For example, this longer version of the "chickens coming home to roost" sermon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdlnzkeoyQ

It doesn't take a theologian to get that he is preaching AGAINST REVENGE. Against wanting revenge after 9/11 so much that we lash out and kill innocents.

But all his detractors say about that one is that he "blames Americans" for it.
His footnote does speak of blowback, which many foreign policy experts also talk about, but the gist of the sermon - the real LESSON TO PONDER - is that we should reflect, rather than react.

10.  He that have eyes, let him see - he who have ears to hear, let them hear.
But on the other hand....

Pearls before swine.

I'm not a theistic person, but do enjoy comparative religion.
Truth is where you find it, but ya gots ta be lookin', you know?

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink.
You can dress a monkey up in a man suit, but cannot make him think.

So it goes. :hi:

12. I'd like to see the full GD America sermon too
I'm betting it is something very similar. Of course I was cheering his comments on the video loops that have been playing continuously. I was only taken aback by the AIDS comment. Of course, given the Tuskegee experiment, Rev. Wright has every right to be paranoid about that type of thing. Of course, if he had said that the US government was ignoring the AIDS crisis among black Americans he would be right. But that is different from deliberate infection.

13. One was plenty, thanks.
It remains to be seen whether he's killed Obama's chances in the fall. But I found his remarks highly offensive. And a lot of other people did too.
