How about Maxine Waters for VP?
Edited on Fri May-07-04 06:42 PM by genius
Last weekend she got the California Democratic Party to adopt the stongest moratorium resolution the Democratic Party has ever had. According to those who saw the vote, it was close to unanimous. Since then a number of people have been talking about her unifying impact on Democrats.

4. easiest republican win in years
black and a woman

this year too important for experiments

she is absolutely hated and despised by many whites

I've seen/heard the reaction when she's on TV - truly horrendous

5. Perhaps we should start lynching blacks and take back the 19th Amend.
What was I thinking? Women belong barefoot and pregnant and serving dinner to the men, and blacks, well, they're slave class.

I wasn't expecting that kind of prejudice in this forum.

What about them? Bank on it--- it would happen. Does the word "McGovern" mean anything to you, genius? :wtf:

24. I doubt that there are that many anti-choice racists around.
I was going to start using the DU more again. But if there are that many people here willing to please the worst in America, I think I want to go elsewhere.

I thought this was supposed to be a Democratic site.

No wonder Moore, who is now backing Kerry, is getting flamed here. A lot of people here want Bush to win and they don't want the party united.

6. Its not that she is black and a woman
Edited on Fri May-07-04 06:48 PM by mydawgmax
She has taken controversial stands that play well in her district but maybe not so well in a national campaign.

Edited to clarify, being black and a woman is not the problem.

Her positions would DOOM THE TICKET, because they wouldn't be popular elsewhere.

Edited on Fri May-07-04 07:00 PM by bobbieinok
a lot of it is her voice and manner of moving and speaking

it may work very well in her district but is a MAJOR turn-off in much of the country

8. we'd get killed
first she's from a state which Kerry is going to win anyways

second, her media presence is awful, she comes off as arrogant, elitist, and nasty. I felt this even when agreeing with her words

third, she has no cross aisle or independent appeal. No doubt she'll make greenies happy, but that's not going to win us an election.

Good congresswoman, poor choice for VP.

12. She is constantly TV speaking up for human rights.
Those who oppose racial equality and support police beatings probably would consider her arogant. Most of the public agrees with her. Last weekend she convinced even the moderates and conservatives in the party to support her. She has more appeal among regular people than anyone currently mentioned for VP - except maybe Dennis.

Or do you think civil rights are unpopular?

25. You're claiming everyone disagrees with her opposition to the war
You're also claiming they disagree with her support for civil rights, with her support for choice, with her support for the environment. It is your claim that is indefensible.

By the way people, there were more than a million women in Washington agreeing with her last weekend.

Right on, Genius. I bet you didn't know that people here supported the war when you started this thread.

18. How about not
I don't like her at all. She helped throw out a democratic congressman in Texas because he was white and she wanted a black congressman and then she was celebrating on the House floor. From what I saw when Ben Chandler was sworn in she refused to clap for him. She just isn't a nice person from what I can tell. She always seems so angry. She would be an awful candidate.

30. I find her amusing
and agree with her often.

However, she hasn't a chance in hell, in being selected the VP, let alone actually winning it.

This really doesn't seem like a very serious suggestion.
