Can DU take the high road like John Edwards?
John Edwards appearance on Jay Leno tonight was healing and hopefully bringing the party together..

Can we all remember why we are here in the first place? To stop John McCain (REMEMBER that guy?) Let's talk about what both our candidates can do for us and give them all our support...everything is at risk! Education and health care for our children..healthy economy. Come on people! Stop this infighting and look for the greater goal...let's not blow this opportunity!

1. You're asking a lot of the partisans here...
...but I agree with you 100 percent.

2. this will prob sink like a rock
trying to be hopeful...Howard Dean must be on tranquilizers. Edwards mentioned he talks to Gore but "conversations are private"...can you imagine what the powers that be are saying?

4. Oh, man I would love to know!
I would really love to know what John Edwards thinks. It sounds like he has serious problems
with Hillary's politics, and he likes Barack better and is more philosophically in line with him--but
feels that he needs to toughen up a bit.

Gore...he most likely despises the Clintons because he was close to them.

Interesting that these two are talking.

We heard Pelosi practically side with Obama last Sunday--what other Dem stalwarts are probably taking
a significant stand one way or the other?

11. Where pray tell did you get THAT impression out of that interview?
He was very careful NOT to lean one way or the other with Clinton OR obama.
The only glowing praise went to Al Gore.

...and I wasn't commenting on anything Edwards said
during the Leno interview.

25. Actually, I responded directly to a question that was...
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 09:15 AM by TwoSparkles
asked in a specific post. The posters asked the question, "Can you imagine what the powers that be are saying?"

I then directly responded to her question. My post was titled, "Oh man would I love to know!"

Get it now? She asks question. I answer question. :)

Question...answer. :)

Have a wonderful day! :)

Thanks for all those happy faces.

We'd all love to know what John Edwards and other "powers that be are saying..." but we don't know.

Cheers!

in those conversations.

Imagine an administration with people like them helping to lead the way.

17. If he was her opponent, he would be.
Remember, she had her pals at the National Enquirer run several articles about his alleged affair and some knocked-up chick that they claimed was carrying his child. Now the NE is running articles about Obama. Funny thing though, not a word about Hillary and we KNOW the dirt is there. Perhaps this is because the owner of the Enquirer is a BIG Hillary supporter.

Fighting dirty is all she knows.

And I still say Edwards is job-hunting. He wants a seat at the table and he doesn't have the spine to stand up and endorse a candidate so he's playing it safe and waiting to see who will emerge as the nominee THEN he'll endorse. Sorry, I can't support such spineless actions.

20. Maybe John is now in a better position to see the big picture
Maybe he's able to put the interests of our party and our country above this bickering. Perhaps he'd rather discuss the important issues and is able to see that either Dem candidate would be better than what we've had these past 8 years.

This is politics. Edwards is not spineless for not choosing any more than other politicians are strong/brave for having chosen. Please. It's an "investment" for a lot of these career politicians to make a choice, too.

And really, what would be so wrong about Edwards being able to work with either candidate -- or WHOEVER wins? LOL! I mean, our candidates' voting records are nearly identical.

At least he isn't playing the neener-neener game.

Does every thread have to turn into the bashing of one candidate to elevate the other?

I think John Edwards would be discussing the issues whether "kitchen sinked" by Hillary or Barack.

Both have given major speeches on many topics - these speeches get little coverage.

9. I know
It's so ugly around here.

There are just tons of ego posts. Wow, so many brave (anonymous) typists. It's worse than Junior High.

I am proud of both candidates, but the attacks around here make both unrecognizable. It's disgusting. It would be nice if such energy could be put into oh, I don't know, maybe winning the election? Beating the Republicans?

Fucking stupidity abounds. We think everyone will jump to our candidate if we accuse the other candidate of being a racist, a bigot, or a republican. <yawn> Meanwhile, McCain gets a free ride and Limbaugh uses all this to laugh at us and preach to his listeners.

Sorry for the cursing -- it's unlike me -- but I'm seriously ashamed of what Du has become.

One is not a saint and the other a sinner. Grow up. Please.

10. remember the old days October?
we've both been here a long time..would show longer but Skinner took me out and then gave a reprieve 4 yrs ago.. That's another story...it was pretty strict back then...but a family and kept my sanity through Bush years. And literate posts...where have those thoughtful people gone?

Am so afraid my children won't have the future they deserve. You're correct...all these posts are destroying the hopes we've had all these years. I want to curse as well

16. I sure do, medeak
I'm appalled at what DU has become.

This was where I always came to feel "sane" in a country gone crazy after the 2000 election debacle and then 9/11. Now? It's all being destroyed by in-fighting and playground-speak. Everyone is a bully.

Talk about a circular firing squad!

I'm rapidly losing hope. Neither one of our candidates is bridging the divide -- and the other side is using it against us.

I'm starting to feel like I have no political party to route for any more. Depressing, indeed.

18. Thanks for this thread, medeak
Your thread is not getting enough kicks because people can't look in the mirror and admit to what they've been doing. They'd rather say something glib and insulting.

We need someone like John Edwards, yes (or Dean?) -- but SOMEONE -- to step up and be a REAL leader of ALL Democrats. This slamming of another's candidate thinking that that somehow proves one's "superior" belief in their own candidate is beyond immature. It's insane and destructive. Yet, that's the way most posts around here read.

Plus, we have quite a few so-called leaders in our own Party doing the same. They're choosing sides while bashing the other Dem. Nice example.

(:sarcasm:)

Even once influential Blog sites have taken sides and publish hate every day. Remember when they were neutral and fair?

There's a great divide in our Party, and I don't see anyone even trying to fix/mend it. It's like everyone is caught up in the intensity of the "game" and "winning at all costs." Trouble is, they've forgotten we're on the same team.

19. I agree with you and have been saying that for months, but it
falls of many deaf ears here. DU is very divided, just like the national Dem party, and because of that, we'll probably lose in November. This was going to be our year, but not anymore.

35. Point taken
We can and do all have opinions. Still, there should be a modicum of civility. It is severely lacking around here these days.

I am of the belief that the anonymity is great, but also gives license to rude remarks -- maybe more than might otherwise be posted if people's true names were involved.

It just seems everyone is on a hair-trigger.

I can't remember the last time I saw an "IMHO" on these threads. It was once a standard around here.
