CBS Poll: 64% of whites believe the U.S. is ready for a black POTUS
Race In The White House

A new CBS News poll of U.S. RVs out this a.m. shows 64% of whites believe the U.S. is ready for a black POTUS, while just half of blacks believe the same. At the same time, men and women are equally accepting of a woman POTUS.

Beyond this revelation, there is evidence in the poll to suggest the country is generally more ready for a black than a woman POTUS. All other factors being equal, 5% of voters prefer a white candidate, while 2% prefer a black candidate; 93% of voters say race makes no difference. With respect to gender, 17% of voters prefer a male candidate, while just 3% prefer a woman; 80% of voters say gender makes no difference.

Additionally, more than half of voters, 56%, say most people they know would vote for a black candidate, while only 46% say most people they know would vote for a woman candidate.

The poll, conducted 3/15-18, surveyed 952 RVs and has margin of error +/- 3%.

5. I think it's pretty good
If it indicates open-mindedness among that large a segment. Barack would be convincing against McCain to at least some of the remainders.

4. This is a new experience for me, being in a majority group. Now I have to reflect on if I'm really
in favor or I have to switch sides 'cause I'm just argumentative.

8. Yes, just not apparently Barack Obama
His problem isn't race. It is having no experience.

13. Polls where people guess the behavior of others are absurd
After all, if we could just guess what other people are thinking, why would we need to poll them?

This all looks like what people think other people are thinking. I'd put more stock in a poll that asks "would YOU consider voting for an African-American?"

14. Why do so many look at the color of Obama's skin to decide
if he should be the POTUS?? Can't people get passed that and look at the man himself? When I see Barack Obama, I see an honest, truthful, confident, caring, intelligent man who is exactly what our country needs right now to lead us out of this mess. This mess that was created by two greedy, cheating, lying, stupid, selfish, clueless, and uncaring men...bush and cheney.

15. that doesn't mean that they would vote for him.
I'll say what most won't say here. Don't label all blacks this way but my family feels that a lot of whites talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Put up or shut up as they say and for me and mine we'll believe it when we see it. I have no reason in American history to truly believe this poll or these people
