Jesse Jackson agrees with Obama's grandmother (black people scare him, whites relieve him)
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 07:40 PM by gorenobel
As you know, Barack Obama lashed against his grandmother yesterday for having unfair stereotypes against blacks:

"I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Now I want you to please read this passage by Jesse Jackson, being quoted by NYT's Bob Herbert:

HERBERT (12/12/93): Jesse Jackson is traveling the country with a tough anti-crime message that he is delivering to inner-city youngsters. In Chicago he said, "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery—then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved."

You just saw Jesse Jackson agree 100% with Obama's grandmother's comments.
But Obama, of course, went for the hapless granny, instead of condemning Jessee Jackson, who is a big political leader whose views, needless to say, have more weight in American than those of Obama's grandmother.

If Obama were consistent, he would have gone after the bigshot, not his grandmother.

Some of you might say, "well, that was 1993". And I would reply, "Was it ok 15 years ago to feel afraid of blacks and not of whites?"

6. lashed out against his grandmother?
Someone obviously didn't understand that thrust of the speech. It was about forgiving our family's foibles, including his grandmother's.

Read the speech again.

13. Why did Jackson feel relieved when he was close to a white person?
Do you feel scared when you are in front of a black person, and relieved when near a white one?

That is what Jackson said.

And similar words by the grandmother were condemned by Obama.

10. Eleven posts. What is going on here at DU today with the new anti-Obama posters?
I just responded to another ugly anti-Obama post that was the OP's fourth post, and yet another's whose post was his/her 15th.

Something very ugly is going on here at DU today. These people are getting their marching orders and attacking Barack all over the Internet, flooding sites like ours with their hate.

Nasty stuff. Mods?

11. Oh, please - he didn't lash out at his grandmother. He said she had said things that
made him cringe. How do you know he didn't cringe when he heard Jesse Jackson's comment?

And for someone who has joined the cabal of people expressing fake concern for Obama's grandmother, calling her "hapless" (i.e., miserable, woebegone, wretched, forlorn; pathetic, pitiable) is pretty demeaning to her. I'm sure she would beg to differ with your condescending and insulting characterization of her.

18. Are you suggesting that Jesse Jackson is some sort of vampire?
And unable to see himself in the mirror?

In that case, yes. Obama must certainly distance himself from Jesse Jackson, and any other sort of undead creatures of the night.

37. What do Jesse Jackson's words 15 years ago have to do with Obama?
Is it because he is black? So now Obama has to answer for any black's statements during the past 15 years? Give it a rest!
