12. So glad you're not. Why even vote, if you hate the country so much?
Quick--move to Canada. Odds are they won't have you.

15. What an astounding post. It says more about you than you might have wanted to reveal.
None of it terribly impressive.

7. Goddamn America for its treatment of minorities is not garbage though.
And that's what Wright was saying. Unless you believe that America treats minorities so wonderfully. In which case, I'm sure it seems like garbage.

10. It was a stupid thing to say. Render unto Caesar, and all that.
Stop trying to pull that weakass dumb pathetic, loser argument routine, suggesting I actually "believe that America treats minorities so wonderfully."

I don't think that, but it was STILL a DUMB FUCK THING TO SAY. Particularly right after three thousand died in New York City.

Some of those people who died were those "minorities" you blab on about with such self-righteous vigor.

21. The words "God Damn America" are incompatible with holding public office.
There is no context that you can place "God Damn America" in which spins it positively to middle America and you can not win be President without middle America's permission. Obama is damaged goods. He is an albatross hanging around our neck now.

9. I don't mind the blame being put where the blame belongs
But I am in that broad brush that he painted as an oppressor and I resent the fuck out of it.
Why didn't he narrow his spew to THIS ADMINISTRATION? The ones that are really responsible.

14. His argument was also theologically unsupportable.
Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.

God doesn't damn-- or praise-- countries, if you want to get right down to it. And for him to put the damning on GOD to do is just cheesy, inappropriate, and playing to the crowd. It really weakened the guy's argument, and made him look...well, un-scholarly.

And you are correct, if he'd said God DAMN the people who allowed this to happen, he'd have been better off. Of course, that church has already stepped WAY over the line when it comes to politics from the pulpit--he couldn't have said BUSH, or he'd be electioneering. Same way he and Moss should not be saying Obama or Clinton from that same pulpit. They still might lose their tax-exempt status.

16. Broad Brush?
The history of American imperial oppression is centuries long. It is hardly limited to this administration. The only difference between us and the empires of the past is that we pretend we are bringing economic opportunity and democracy to the world.

18. That's what I'm talkin' about!
The Bible lost me at "formed from Adam's rib" and "submit to your husband".

20. I left conservative churches because of sexism
I was 22 and leading a Bible study of people in the church. One woman in the group was a CPA, another was working on her PHD in education, and another had a Masters Degree in Biology and was a teacher. There were men in the group too. I was reading a commentary on a book of the Bible and leading the study that way. So I went to talk to the pastor about it. He sat there and listened to me and then he quietly told me that he didn't think women should be in leadership positions in the church, so no, he wouldn't advise me on this. But it was perfectly fine for me to teach Sunday School or lead a Bible Study like I was doing. I remember thinking a woman can be an astronaut, but she can't do your job.

So I walked out and never looked back. I moved a few months later. I went to a UCC chuch after that. The first time I went to that church there was a black woman in the pulpit, and white men in the pews, and I thought, thats more like it. Where the order of things is reversed, Jesus is at work.
