What kind of (flag?) pin is Obama wearing in this video?

This is a wonderful speech by Obama, but I couldn't help noticing the pin on his coat. Is that an American flag pin, and, if so, I wonder if he decided to do it to affirm his patriotism in light of recent events.

2. Like it or not, the flag pin has been made an issue in this campaign

if he decided to start wearing one all of a sudden, that would be noteworthy if there were a message behind it.
