Hillary Clinton Leads St. Patrick's Day Parades in Pittsburgh and Scranton

Special thanks to Bigtree who put this together ;-)

Hillary Clinton Leads St. Patrick's Day Parades in Pittsburgh and Scranton

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) There was no red or blue politics Saturday, only green as Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton marched in this city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade.

Clinton marched about two miles on the parade route through downtown Pittsburgh. Thousands of people lined the streets, cheering and screaming, some holding green signs that said "Clinton Country" with others that said O'Bama. At times there were mini-sign wars, all in good Irish fun.

Clinton wore a green American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees scarf. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, who have all endorsed the senator, marched alongside her.

City of Pittsburgh police estimated the crowd lining the route to be well over 260,000.

Clinton received a warm welcome as she walked along the one mile parade route that was sprinkled with supporters holding both green Clinton and Obama campaign signs along the way.

Clinton spontaneously stopped and shook hands several times along the way even making an unscheduled stop at the reviewing stand at the end of the parade saying, "Thank you, Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. This is a great parade, may the luck of the Irish be with us all, God bless you."

Speaking to media near the reviewing stand, Sen. Hillary Clinton said that she was impressed by the enthusiasm of the people of Scranton.

When asked if winning the vote in Northeast Pennsylvania was key to her winning the Keystone State, Sen., Clinton replied that it was "important to me personally" to win here. She also said that she feels like she's at home in Scranton, having visited many times as she grew up.

1:25 p.m.
Shaking hands with supporters and well-wishers along Wyoming Ave., presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has received another warm welcome in Scranton.

1:50 p.m.
Sen. Clinton is now along Lackawanna Ave., greeted by a huge crowd of enthusiastic supporters near the Radisson Hotel.

2:10 p.m.
The crowd roared as Hillary Clinton turned the corner from Spruce St. to N. Washington Ave. The block is the final leg of the parade before the reviewing stand.

Times-Tribune staff writer Borys Krawczeniuk reports that "this parade is like nothing I've ever seen." He said that Sen. Clinton is greeting parade-goers on both sides of the street, posing with people for photos, shaking hands, and at one point holding a baby handed to her.

The crowd of people, expected to top 100,000 spectators, lined up 10 people deep in spots to catch of the New York Senator.

151. yes... that's Exactly What I, fascisthunter Said
She prefers to cackle when posed with serious questions she knows she can't answer, especially during debates. It's the type of character flaw one sees in a person who needs to put on an air of superiority out of weakness and dishonesty. On the streets, we call it, "putting on a front".

Also, I'm not as much a fan, as I am a supporter of Obama, and that's only because I despise corporate sellouts like Clinton and the DLC in general. They have done enough to damage the party since the 90's. It's all very well documented and a major reason Bush has gotten almost everything he's wanted in the last 7 years. You can quote me on this too.

Which is why it's impossible to take you seriously, even though I suspect if you got over the infatuation you have you'd be a reasonable person to talk to. Maybe after the election you'll see how you've been acting here all along, and how it's no different from those you complain about.

156. A quote from a member of Obama's Irish relatives.
"Sure, it's great!" said Henry Healy, 22, a villager who said family records indicate he is distantly related to Obama. Like many Moneygall residents, he is suddenly following the U.S. presidential race more closely and rooting for his kinsman. "It would be brilliant if he won because for one thing, he is related to me, and also it would be good for the village."

99. Fair enough, and a good point
But if you have to ask why she "turns many peoples' stomachs", it is hard to get far with an answer without crediting years of RW smear.

I support Obama, but have decided for myself to put aside all of the repug implanted gut-reactions in favor of the issues. It is not so hard, really, if you consider the alternative of losing to them miserably in the GE.

I am as anti-war as they get, but pinning blame on Hillary doesn't serve the purpose very well. If the choice is her or McCain, Hillary is the best by far.

A better question would be: how is it that a poll indicated more than half of the people in the US believed Saddam was involved in 9/11? Blaming the carnage of the war on Hillary is the same sort of ignorance.

edit to delete a qualification unnecessary on a positive thread :)

158. HilBilly claims she was "misled" on WMD intelligence before
the nvasion. Do you believe her? If you don't believe her, do you really want someone as nominee who lies so cavalierly when the lives of 1,000,000+ Iraqi civilians rest in the balance?

If you do believe her (that she was 'mis-led'), are you really comfortable having as nominee what has to be the biggest dupe in American history?

172. Geez, what does HilBilly's vote to authorize the invasion
make her look like, other than a power-hungry Machiavellian willing to sacrifice the lives of 1,000,000+ Iraqi civilians just so she could look "tough on national security issues"?

In other words, I believe HilBilly lied when she claimed she was 'mis-led' about pre-invasion Iraqi WMD. She knew full well that Iraq wasn't even close to being a threat and yet she needed to vote with the Gephardt wing of the Dem Party so she would look tough on national security. Instead, she looks exactly like what she is - a war-mongering baby killer.

lovely, smiling Hillary. She has to be exhausted, but she never shows it. Thanks to you and bigtree for being great Hillary supporters and for making my day.

Parade-goers Adore Hillary in Scranton (w/ video)

Parade-goers adore Hillary

BY BORYS KRAWCZENIUK, STAFF WRITER
Scranton Times-Tribune
03/16/2008

Maybe no St. Patricks Day Parade in Scranton thrilled like this one.

A crowd that organizers said was the largest in the parades 47-year history jammed downtown streets to greet Democratic presidential candidate and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, who returned to the city Saturday for the second time in five days, again to adoration.

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, the people who filled downtown sidewalks frequently chanted.

As Mrs. Clinton walked, dozens of people constantly rushed ahead on adjacent sidewalks to get as close to her as possible. It was less orderly than her visit Monday to Scranton High School, but the feel was the same. They cheered, they clapped, they waved at her, they shook her campaign signs, they snapped pictures with digital cameras and cell phones.

Girls screamed like when the Beatles arrived in the United States or when actor Drake Bell showed up at the Mall at Steamtown in December. Organizers said they were sure Mrs. Clintons presence drew the larger crowd.
