| "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just" - |
|
"Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that His justice can not sleep forever."
Whether you agree with Rev. Wright or not, he's not the first person to go there. "Inflammatory" is in the eye of the beholder.

| 3. Well, this whole Rev. Wright thing has opened my eyes. I |
|
never would have believed the hate being preached from the pulpit. How does that kind of speech bring us together?

| 6. If you ever want to witness a huge gathering of hypocrites, visit |
|
a church. Quite often the one behind the pulpit is the
King Hypocrite and Biggest Fraud.

| 9. I don't see the comments as hateful... |
|
He was trying to stir the congregation ~ inspire them to action.
I don't have much use for church, but I wouldn't confuse Wright's impassioned performance with hatred.

| 12. I don't think that Wright preached "hate" |

I didn't hear him encourage anyone to hate anyone else. He simply stated how many people actually feel -

| 4. Why did Obama turn his back on his roots? |
|
I understand his mother - who sounds like an amazing person - brought him up as an atheist. (If i am wrong on that then help me out). Too bad he did not stay that way (imo)

| 13. It's been a while since I read The Audacity of Hope |
|
but what I recall it saying is that his mother did not bring him up as an atheist at all, but exposed him to many different religions so that he could make up his mind for himself whether or not to choose to believe in one.
She was the kind of atheist who, while she could not and chose not to believe for herself, did not attempt to preach or impose the gospel of atheism on anyone else by telling them that religion was illogical and stupid.
I, for one, am glad Obama was raised by such an open-minded woman.
