Don't we want Repubs to think as deeply about Bush as we do about Kerry?

Wouldn't we like it if Republicans debated about Bush and whether or not he's a good candidate? People here seem to admire the Rep. for being lockstep, as if that's a good thing. Wouldn't we be happy if some Rep. came out against Bush, saying he doesn't represent core party values? Why can't I dislike Kerry? I WANT TO GET RID OF BUSH. I THINK KERRY WILL LOSE. And I imagine there are Rep. who feel the same about Bush. I think we have a better party because we don't let our candidates off the hook that easy, and we get rid of them if they're losers. I want to be in the non-lockstep party. I'll vote for Kerry, but I'm not going to be a sheeple and say he's good.

That's the difference between democrats and repubs. We like to think and debate and read and think and discuss, whereas they just follow party lines and stay loyal regardless of what's right and wrong.

What's the alternative?

Bush? It's a binary choice, my friend. Bush* or Kerry.

As for me, there will never be a perfect candidate that shares all of my views. But I know that Kerry would be far better than Bush.

Do I wish he was more anti-war? Of course I do. But, a candidate has to be able to carry some pretty conservative states to get enough electoral college votes. That's just the way it works in the US.

There is no utopia, but Kerry will be a president who won't try to end reproductive freedom, champion a marriage amendment, or engage our country in preemptive wars.

Once Kerry is elected, hold his feet to the fire. Raise hell. Get involved in local politics and cause change to happen in your community. It will be easier to challenge the system from within instead of licking up crumbs that may drop from Bush's table.

6. I think debating Kerry is healthy

He's a big boy and he can take it. I want the world to see us debating him, and I want to attract people to our party by making our diversity public. I want them to see us angry and fighting so they know that they can be a Democrat and not have to give up their values. I would urge the convention not to nominate him, as is my right, and I don't plan to shy away from discussing his weaknesses. But I'll also vote for him.

4. I'm not sheep. I respect Kerry's courageous efforts to investigate and

expose more government corruption than any lawmaker in modern history. BCCI, IranContra and CIA drugrunning investigations were NOT beanbag.

Kerry was up against the FBI, CIA, and the entiire Dem and GOP powerstructures and their whores in the media. Many tried to take him down during those years and he soldiered on.

That may not mean much to you, but those of us who are sincere about taking down the BFEE recognize the basic truth that without Kerry's efforts to expose that corruption, the BFEE would be WAY more hidden and powerful even than they are today.

Republicans are debaters? In the last 24 years republicans have used every dirty trick in the book, then revised the book and created a whole line of new dirty tricks in American politics that totally prevent debate including shouting over their opponents, talking down to people, attaching labels to people for their views, character assassination, blacklisting, lying about people, dehumanize democratic ideas, on and on and on! Republicans and especially this administration are not interested in debate at all.

The right wishes only to push their political, religious and social agenda on the entire society, reserving special exceptions above the law for the ruling elite and the wealthy and the privileged few. Debate my ass! If it looks like Bush is going to loose in November, the republicans will create another national crisis, Bush will declare martial law, halt the election and impose himself as dictator. The Supreme Court will back him and he will create his own Republican Guard to protect his power.

14. Observing that attitudes here often leave much to be desired

is hardly the same as saying that I find them so objectionable that I'd leave - rather the reverse, if anything.

But if you want irony, you might consider your own recent refusal to voice support for Robert Byrd's positions in some areas because you disagree with his positions in others: the virtuous intensity with which you defended your attitude contrasted quite starkly with the intensity with which you disparage those who feel the same way about Kerry - almost as if a completely different poster were talking.
