Why are Bill and Hillary entitled to be in the White House for another 8 years?
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 02:38 AM by acrosstheuniverse
Honestly. Why? why? why?

It was scandal after scandal after scandal after failure after failure of getting things through Congress with Republican majorities across this land and a President who lied to the American people.

The 1990's were a failure for Democrats and the only Democrats who prospered were Bill and Hillary.

He will probably cheat again and then what? Another sex scandal? You know he has a problem.

I just can't for the life of me get why they should be in there again. It's absurd.

Do people not remember this is Bill Clinton and his wife again?

Because I guarantee you more then half the country feel the same sentiments as me. It will doom the party this November. More Republicans then ever will vote just to vote against her.

Can't people see that? Enough Repubs will vote to overthrow the Democratic majorities once again.

but it's the principle. There's a lot more at stake then just voting for Hillary. There's a really good chance that a seat or more will become available during the next presidential term. If McCain is allowed to appoint conservative judges to the SCOTUS, you can waive goodbye to progressive issues for potentially decades.

I feel like she's holding us hostage, like it's some sort of Stockholm syndrome thing (altho I know it's not). I will more than fake support if she's the nominee; I will fake my enthusiasm. I will knock doors and donate. You won't be able to tell me apart from a sincere Clinton supporter.

Please, God and Pennsylvania, both of you, save me from this fate! :)

As far as being "entitled", I don't think ANYONE is entitled to be President. No one. They have to earn it, imho.

Oh woop de doo she was in the Senate four more years then him 2000 v.s. 2004 and was first lady of a President and governor before that. She did a miserable job as head of the health care plan.

As for Obama himself he has been in public office for 20 years.

17. nope. I think the OP is largely baloney but stop with the victim shit
no one forced bill to screw around with a 21 year old employee, and no one put a gun to his head and made him lie about it. No one forced him to pardon Marc Rich or the NY embezzlers. And there's no reason whatsoever to think that Kerry or Gore would have behaved so recklessly. I was disgusted by Bill's behavior then and I don't think any better of it now. Anyone who claims to be a feminist and excuses his behavior is simply a rank hypocrite. It certainly isn't a disqualifier for Hillary but it's utter bullshit to say that all the scandals were manufactured. They weren't.

Hillary needs to wind down and retire this thing with dignity at this point. She doesn't have to come out and say it, but she starts to act it, and I am afraid she's hard-wired like any ambitious candidate to, instead, use all the resources at her disposal to destroy whatever's in her way.

24. Exploiting a very young woman?
She was 21 at the time, so I suppose by saying she was exploited because of her age means that a person of 21 is easily influenced by older adults. I'm glad someone can finally admit Obama is exploiting very young people on a much larger scale.

She had done the same thing with a married professor, while a student. Perhaps, she dug men with power. I'm not saying Clinton was the victim. They were both guilty but in my mind, this whole mess was something that only Hillary and Chelsea needed to deal with. It was none of our business. Also, keep in mind that some of those crying the loudest on the Republican side were doing the exact same thing.

36. What Bill did with Monica was wrong, there's no doubt about that, but
to paint her as an innocent is wrong also and I don't condone the behavior of either of them. She had already had an affair with a married man before she went to Washington. Google the name Andrew Bleiler.

It's a long download, but you can read about his testimony here starting on page 149.

How many other young women would send a dress with a semen stain on it to her mother and tell her to keep it and not have it cleaned? That's not the usual souvenir that one picks up when they are in DC.

>>Tripp herself was GS-16 Army Intelligence, a leftover from the Bush White House team, and previously the personal secretary to Richard Secord at the Delta Force, a key Contragate figure. This is the new form of assassination -- go for the character. Clinton, like Nixon, was not framed but cornered<<

>>Goldberg's role was not simply that of a cut-out or messenger for Linda Tripp. On Jan. 22 she told the press "that she encouraged her friend Linda Tripp . . . to tape conversations with intern Monica Lewinsky." (All quotations are from an article in the January 23 1998, San Francisco Chronicle, p. A11.) She kept the tapes for Tripp and later turned them over to the FBI. If Tripp instigated Lewinsky, it would appear that Goldberg instigated Tripp.

Both Tripp and Goldberg are apparently Republicans. Tripp was one of only two holdovers from the Bush White House.<<

>>I am not here suggesting anything about the guilt or innocence of Clinton, only that at least one of the people making his life difficult has a background suggestive of past political intrigues<<

>>Lucianne Goldberg could win the Chutzpah Award for her work as a literary agent fabricating tales of murder, corruption, and sexual dalliance within the Clinton administration. By her own admission, she worked for Nixon Special Counsel Murray Chotiner, as a dirty trickster for his Committee to Re-Elect the President (CREEP), going so far as to infiltrate the 1972 Democratic Presidential campaign of Sen. George McGovern. <<

37. That's that histrionic revisionism thing of yours again. That is what is being said to keep...
Bill Clinton in the corner with a dunce hat on. And hopefully all the hard edged questions from BO in the process. That is also the RW mantra. BO peeps are prepared to drag that old dead cat around the graveyard dusk till dawn, rather than admit their guy leaves even a few things to be desired. That RW meme has sprung up here very lately in response to BO having to answer ANY questions.

We've already lived through that and it is peculiar hearing it from someone that pretends to the democratic party, now...

Did Clinton do some really stupid stuff; a really stupid thing? Yes.

Are young women the only ones exploited, in the sense to which you are referring? No. The matter was far more nuanced than that. In fact if you are not aware of the intrigues brought upon this subject by the cackling old & older hags: Linda Tripp & Lucianne Goldberg, then you have no handle on very specific, indisputable elements of that particular event sequence. Two individuals to name but two, that exploited Monica Lewinsky in ways even Monica never thought possible. So much for sisterhood. And congratulations for supporting the efforts of Linda Tripp & Lucianne Goldberg

Are you therefore claiming some feminist mantle in retrospect where there simply is none to keep, in a very exploitative manner, Bill Clinton's zipper at the center of your mind's eye, and others I suspect it is your intention? Just to keep BO from having to interact has have other presidential candidates before him? Imo there can be no doubt.

I never thought it would come to this here at DU. You don't need to revise history, when a simple review will do...

The Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock Timeline

--MAY Lewinsky graduates Lewis & Clark College

--JUNE Lewinsky leaves for unpaid White House internship; allegedly jokes to Andrew Bleiler (who claims to have been a longtime lover), "I'm going to the White House to get my presidential knee pads"

--NOVEMBER-DECEMBER Meets Clinton at White House party. If her alleged statements on tape are true, she wears revealing outfit, they flirt, and (she claims) they commence extended affair. Is hired as paid White House staff member

1996

--APRIL Lewinsky shipped to Pentagon. Befriends Linda Tripp, an aide in the same office

--NOVEMBER Clinton re-elected. Now famous video captures him hugging beret-clad Lewinsky at reception on White House lawn

1997

--MAY Supreme Court rejects Clinton's request for delay in Paula Jones case

--AUGUST-DECEMBER On the advice of Lucianne Goldberg, Tripp buys recorder and starts taping confidential conversations with Lewinsky. Topic: alleged affair with Clinton

--EARLY OCTOBER Rutherford Institute, funding Jones' suit, receives first of three anonymous phone tips alleging a Lewinsky-Clinton affair

--OCTOBER Lewinsky, restless, seeks new job. She rejects an offer from U.N. Ambassador Bill Richardson

--OCTOBER-DECEMBER Lewinsky is referred to Vernon Jordan for job advice. Also, she sends multiple packages to White House from Pentagon

--DEC. 5 Jones' lawyers, acting on the anonymous tips, inform Clinton's lawyers they want to depose Lewinsky

--DEC. 8-10 On Lewinsky's behalf, Jordan makes calls to American Express and the CEO of advertising giant Young & Rubicam. Immediately afterward, Lewinsky sends letter of application to Burson-Marsteller, a Y&R subsidiary

--DEC. 17 Lewinsky receives a call from Thomas Schick, American Express's vice president for corporate affairs; they arrange to meet

--DEC. 18 Her testimony postponed, she interviews at Burson-Marsteller in New York City

--DEC. 23 She interviews at American Express. She is not hired

--DEC. 26 Despite her unclear employment prospects, she leaves Pentagon job

--JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS Tripp, who like Lewinsky has been subpoenaed, tells her she intends to expose the alleged affair. They discuss Tripp's having a fake "foot accident" to avoid testifying. (At some point, a source tells TIME, Lewinsky even offers Tripp a financial interest in an Australian condo she owns if Tripp will keep quiet)

--DEC. 28 Lewinsky meets with Clinton in the White House. Betty Currie, his secretary, joins them, sources say. The New York Times reports that he advises her to explain earlier meetings as visits to see Currie, and urges her to go to New York City

--DEC. 30 Back in New York, Lewinsky takes writing test at Burson-Marsteller, but does badly and sends ungrammatical thank-you note

1998

--JAN. 7 Jordan recommends lawyer Frank Carter to Lewinsky and drives her to Carter's office. Lewinsky signs affidavit in the Jones case reportedly denying an affair with Clinton. But according to the Wall Street Journal...

--JAN. 8-11 ...she refuses to file it until Jordan finds her a job. Jordan calls Revlon, on whose board he sits, and within a week the corporation offers her a New York position

In the course of DU eating their own guts to make these stranger & stranger points; I fully expect the dalliances of JFK to be brought forward. Thankfully, perhaps those were simpler times when holding hands meant so much more.

Insofar as the lies told to a nation; they are sometimes seen as simple, complex, or deadly. I would think it easier to digest the simple; or even the complex on a day when, you know...you're feeling your oats or ate your Wheaties...but the deadly?

I offer the current administration as proof of that. And suggest further that they are where our attentions should be drawn to. And not tearing this party apart.

33. Right....
and the Obamoonies continue to regurgitate the very same GOP talking points ad nauseum. Wonder why?
Most of Obama's supporters were still in Pampers during the Clinton Administration. They're not Democrats so much as cult members. I don't think they have any idea of the history of the Democratic Party or what it means to BE a Democrat. They've found a charismatic, slick talking pseudo-messiah and are impressionable and naive enough to buy the "hope" and "change" pablum Obama slathers all over them. They're mostly political dilettantes who've been caught up in a "crusade" to have their messiah elected. They, like their messiah, need a few more years to mature and experience the real world of politics, not their altruistic vision of same.
If they actually think Obama's slick message is going to change anything in Washington they've got another thing coming. He's the same old "I'll say anything to get elected" politician wrapped in very pretty "hopeful" packaging. But I doubt his supporters will ever see that: they're too blinded by the shiny, happy, hopeful image Obama portrays.

It's kind of hard to unite the country let alone win the Presidency when half of it has hated you for over a decade.

I just don't see that much hatred towards Obama when he's in office.

And the corporate media loves John McCain too.

I think she would lose by at least 10 points, maybe more.

21. Possibly the biggest Republican landslide since Reagan's 84 re-election victory
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 03:11 AM by acrosstheuniverse
Plus Republicans regaining Congress due to high Republican and low Democratic turnout.

It would be a catastrophe!

14. Members of the Bush family, now *they* think they're entitled...
But if you can't get past Clinton's penis then I guess you can't. I still think it's a very small world view.

19. I agree
There many reasons to support or oppose Clinton. The blow job isn't one of them.

31. Ok.....Every administration since Nixon has had scandal. And

before, but my memory of the Watergate trials are my first understanding of the politics in the White House. What President Clinton and the Senator do in their private lives, like have sex with other people, is none of our business. One reason that my life is depending on having either Senator Obama or Senator Clinton in the White House, is because one will be the democratic nominee. Hopefully other democratic voters will be able to come to that conclusion and vote for a democratic President. And believe me their will be problems-count on it.

34. Drummed up scandal after scandal you mean.
Tell me, besides that whore Monica, what came to fruition from those scandals after scandal after scandal? NOTHING!!! You've bought into the right-wing lies, I see. Oh sure, they tried to conjure up Christmas cards from Socks, oooooooooooh, their scary Christmas card list -- let's all run for cover. Now, speaking of Presidents telling lies, hmmmmmmmmmmmm? Bill told one that ANY spouse caught in that situation would tell. So, do me a favor and get off Rove's bandwagon.

who refuse to educate themselves on the topic. Clinton's presidency was remarkably scandal free.

40. They want more dirty deals and are hellbent to destroy the Democratic Party from within
Blind ambition, adulterous lust for new interns, more dirty deals with rogue leaders that can fill their pockets and a real chance to destroy the Democratic Party are just some of the reasons the Clintons want to rejoin the Republican agenda in the White House.

Hillary Clinton has proven to be a traitress, a quisling, a double-dealer, a two-timer, a betrayer... her husband does deals with Republicans to get uranium deals and pockets the cash. They are pigs who know where the trough is.

42. Because Bill won after successive republican presidents
is the thinking. That thinking is why the party is split today with different approaches to everything and pretty much not as effective as it could be.

61. and delivered a Republican Congress
The Clintons are great at coming up from behind. They're great at pulling out last minute saves. I want someone who'll win and lead us forward, not just make up for stupidly lost ground. I want change. I didn't particularly want Obama, but he's got the ability to realign votes for a stronger Democratic majority. Sen. Clinton, sadly, does not hold out that potential.

Don't remember him doing that. Oh, and surely you realize that the request for McCain as VP would come with the expectation that he change parties, don't you?

I refuse to vote for her. I do not want her as the head of the party, and I do not want her as President. She's unfit for the office.
