7. LIVE FROM WYOMING: Just got Back from an Obama Rally in Laramie - 12,000 ++

There were probably 12,000-15,000 people there. As someone who waited in a long line to even get a chance to register as a Democrat so I could vote in this caucus, I think there may be more turn out tomorrow than expected.

I was a teensy bit worried about Wyoming, they seem to be the most conservative of all the western states. But if you're getting that in Laramie, that's got to be a good sign, right? How's the weather??

Scott, I'm so happy that all of you good people in Wyoming are getting a crack at this thing. Best part about this race going a little longer than (recently) normal is people in smaller states are participating as much as the more glorified "big" states.

It's an exciting moment for the democratic process. 12,000 in Laramie?? Damn, that must have been exciting. I hope you'll post your experience as a seperate thread... it's been such a blast reading reports from on the ground!

None, zip, nada. They'd have a hard time getting a sample that means anything . I've lived here for 20 years and I'm still surprised sometimes by just how few of us there are (human beings, that is). Wyoming has fewer people per square mile than any other state in the Union, including Alaska, and there are only 60,000 D's in the whole freaking state! And that's counting moose and bears...

8. Report from Wyoming...

Obama will pick up at least 4, maybe more. The Obama machine has been on the ground for weeks, Clinton's folks just got here in the last few days. I live up here in the Blue Corner of the Big Square Red State (Teton County, Jackson Hole) and there isn't a Clinton organizer in sight, but Obama folks have had at least one and often three events a week for the last month. With only 60,000 D's statewide (and it's a WIDE state) that's a pretty impressive effort. Especially in a state where being a Democrat is only slightly less of a stigma than being a registered sex offender.

15. Jackson Hole caucus

Teton County stretches from the north end of Jackson Hole up by Yellowstone south about 90 miles to Alpine and east-west about 50 miles between a couple of mountain ranges - total population is about 17,000. We gotta give everybody time to get to town before we start!

3:30 PM start, Snow King Ballroom. County clerk was totally buried with last minute Dem registrations at the end of last month (must register in advance). It may not have helped that any newly registered voter showing up with the little receipt from the clerk can trade it in for a beer . I'm going to arrive very early just to watch the show.

In a state the with the population of Wyoming (around 500,000 people in 97,100 square miles , 5.1 per square mile), a county like Teton (around 19,000 people in 4,000 square miles, 4.6 per square mile) and a town the size of Jackson (around 8,800) we KNOW who the Democrats and Republicans are . It's one of the advantages of there being so few of us.

Interestingly, we have a long time and very vocal political figure who for years advocated progressives cross over and register Republican since the liklihood of getting anything done in local Wyoming politics was pretty much nil for a registered Democrat. Two weeks ago he switched back to the Democratic Party and published an article repudiating his previous advice.
