Michigan Florida Flap
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 10:45 PM by SoCalDem
Let's say, for instance, that Obama had NOT run the 12-in-a-row in February, and Hillary had a comfortable lead...and the two states were not FL & MI, but were IL and SC.. Would Bill Nelson & Jennifer Granholm be on the "Let the elections count" bandwagon? These people are not "Democratic Party Leaders"... they are partisans..They have an axe to grind.

So far the only people I have seen, (on tv, at least) who are avidly banging the drum for making them count, are obvious partisans who have more to gain personally than just "doing it for the little people..for the voters"..

I know Nelson was elected in 2000, but he was a high profile Floridian, and I don't recall seeing such a frenzied support for Gore's attempts to get the ballots counted..

The sooooper delegates are on the "Goodie-Train", and the "train-wreck" Nelson predicts? Well, that's when the Goodie-train de-rails and he ends up not getting special favors.. Hell , he may even have been "promised" a veep-spot.. He's from a state we have not won in a while..

Ordinary people may want to believe it's all for the high-minded goals of making every vote count, but it's not.. It's raw, bare-knuckle politics..it's Fight-Club for power-hungry pols.. If it were truly "about the voters", a message BEFORE the moved up primaries would have gone something like this:

"Even though we were told our delegates will not be seated, we need to turn out in HUGE numbers and SHOW them how important we are..and THEN we can try to get our election counted... so EVERYBODY GO VOTE.. "

HRC was supposed to have the whole thing wrapped up by Feb 5, in a cakewalk, so those two states' primaries would not even be needed.. that's why they were so willing to sell the voters in those states out.. They didn't care one little bit, back then..and they don't really even care now.. It's all about playing catch up, so THEY can keep their reserved seat on the Goodie-Train..

You cannot demand that the Banker start giving YOU $400 every time you pass GO, just because you keep landing on Boardwalk..

There are rules set in place BEFORE the primary season, and all parties agree to them, and once the voting has happened, you cannot expect to have New Rules set in place just for YOU..

As shitty as the situation turned out to be, you just cannot cram a scrambled egg back into its shell and expect a chick to hatch.

3. I am looking for the quote from Olbermann tonight about what Hillary said.
I know I heard it right, but I don't have the source and can't find it.

He had a pic of her up, and a quote showing that said she did not want a caucus in MI, and that she did not want a primary in Florida. She wants the votes in FL to count as is.

Did anyone else see that? Why can't I find it?

7. I think this is the Hillary quote.
"On a "do-over" in Florida and Michigan, which held nominating contests that broke Democratic Party rules

I would not accept a caucus. I think that would be a great disservice to the 2 million people who turned out and voted. I think that they want their votes counted. And you know a lot of people would be disenfranchised because of the timing and whatever the particular rules were. This is really going to be a serious challenge for the Democratic Party because the voters in Michigan and Florida are the ones being hurt, and certainly with respect to Florida the Democrats were dragged into doing what they did by a Republican governor and a Republican Legislature. They didn't have any choice whatsoever. And I don't think that there should be any do-over or any kind of a second run in Florida. I think Florida should be seated."

I think that is what Olbermann quoted. Will check on it later.
