I'm torn...
...First off, let me say that, although I support Obama, I will be content if Clinton is the nominee and will vote for her if she is our nominee in the GE.

But I'm torn between hoping that BO wins so big tomorrow that it's over and she withdraws, and hoping that she stays in it at least through the PA primaries. I'm getting sick of this already, and the longer the mud-slinging goes on, the more our party, and DU, is torn apart. But I would love it for once for PA to actually have a voice in who the nominee is. My husband thinks she'll stay in it because PA is a winner-take-all state. I didn't know that. Can someone else confirm it? If she takes PA, she would come close to his # of pledged delegates.

1. Dems don't have winner take primaries
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 05:03 AM by grantcart
they are all proportional. Because of that once a candidate has established a 100 delegate lead it is almost impossible for the other candidate to catch up. That is why you hear them saying Hillary has to win by 65% because if there is a 6 delegate congressional district and somebody wins 51% or 60% they are going to split the delegates 3-3. Only if a candidate wins by 65% or more will they split 4-2. For this reason there is no best case scenario for Hillary to execute that would result in her getting more elected delegates. Over the last 3 weeks 40 superdelegates have endorsed Obama and if this trend continues much longer he will also have a lead there ( He has already passed her in Govenors and Senators).

8. Quit using facts and logic!
You will just kill the hope that Hillary wins it all in a stunning turn around.

Probably because the Obama supporters will all wake up from their kool-aid induced daze and realize that Obama is just an blank black board, no thoughts of his own, only a silver tongued devil in disguise.

Yup, any day now...

Waiting for it...

2. No, PA is NOT winner take all
No state in the dem primaries is winner take all. And what I want to see is the swift demise of Clinton's campaign. She's run an epically bad campaign and she's a lousy candidate. She's utterly politically tone deaf; 180 degree difference from the old Bill Clinton. That we don't need in a general election. She'd also stifle Howard Dean who is leading the charge against McCain. Time to send Hill packing.

But thanks for confirming it. I think I'll smack dh when he gets up :)

BTW, if you've never seen this site, it's really interesting and informative.

5. PA will have a voice in who the nominee is.
The fact that we'll know who it is already doesn't invalidate the primary.

6. PA Is Not Winner Take All
"Under the 2008 Democratic Party selection rules, adopted in 2006, delegates are selected under proportional representation, with a candidate requiring a minimum threshold of 15% in a state in order to receive delegates. In addition, the Democratic Party has the right to reject any candidate under their bylaws. Each state publishes a Delegate Selection Plan that notes the mechanics of calculating the number of delegates per congressional district, and how votes are transferred from local conventions to the state and national convention.<10>

The Republican Party's 2008 rules leave more discretion to the states in choosing a method of allocating delegates. As a result, states variously apply the statewide winner-take-all method (e.g., New York), district- and state-level winner-take-all (e.g., California), or proportional allocation (e.g., Massachusetts).<11>"

7. No Dem contest is winner take all
I don't mind Hillary staying in the race. I am not sure PA will really play a role, though--other than adding to the number needed for 2025, that is.
