The Obama Movement added 720,000 donors in February
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 06:57 AM by Perky
I think Donations to the Obama Campaign may approach $70 Million for the month of February based on the following

At the end of January the number of donors for the year was about 256,000 donors. The number for the year now is now 977,525 (http://my.barackobama.com/page/contribute_c/sofar08_sidebar/graphic). That is a whopping 721,000 donors in February.

Obama said the other night that the average donation is about $109. That is $78 Million if you do the back-of-a-napkin math.

Some have theorized that the avarage may be trending up. So it could be even higher.

The extraoridary thing about this were that not enough is that his donor list overall is probably about 1.2M overallor thathe effective tripled it in a single monthm but it really that he can tap that donor list repeatedly between now and the convention.

That build a ground game in every statethat woyldbe be completely unrivaled. and can be leveraged by every candidate for Congress ans every statewide race,

This is they type of operation that can lead to amazing coattails. It is not difficult to see why Super Delegates have moved so decidedly in nis direction in the past two week.(3 since 2/15)

2. It's a movement, not a campaign for the presidency?
No way. I believe in the separation of church and state.

3. Uh, you don't seem to realize that a "movement" is not de facto
a religious movement. And I actually don't buy that his campaign is a movement- not yet anyway.

8. And Obama will have that base once he wins the nomination
Hillary has not moved the the base. Why isthat such a hard thing to get people heads around. Is it just cynicism? Why be so derisive about it?

12. Indeed. A leader is someone who sees a mob and gets in front of it.
Movements occur because mass numbers of people are motivated.

4. I just can't believe they'll raise $70 million
but I wouldn't be surprised to see $50 million. That would still be incredible. Wonder if they'll announce today. Probably not; it's a Saturday.

Based on the $109 per average contribution:

Take the total number of contributors for the year: 977,525

Then subtract the 256,000 in January who averaged $142 per contribution

To offset that high number and bring it down to $109 per contribution, take 256,000 donors in Feb and assume they each donated $76 per contribution. $76 + $142 = $218, Divide $218 by two to get an average of $109.

So assume 256,000 February donors averaged about $76 per head for a total of $19,456,000

Then subtract that 256,000 from the total number of February donors (721,000) for a total of 456,000 remaining donors at an average of $109 per donation for a total of $50,685,000

Add those two numbers together and it looks like:

$70,141,000

I dont think this is possible and again I am basing this off of the figures floating out there.

considering that fear mongering cartoon.

Is that the best you have, his name disqualifies his credentials?

Yes indeed, hate and ignorance DO go hand in hand. You managed to show it in one cartoon.

21. Raised just over $800,000 in January in Texas (3 times more than HRC)
The richest Dallas area residents are donating to Obama....Hillary is getting LESS money donated from Texas than longshot Huckabee!!!

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/politics/national/stories/030108dnpolmoney.3c098eb.html

Barack Obama, after trailing Hillary Rodham Clinton in the chase for Texas money last year, has turned the tables on her – bolstered partly by the financial support of Democrats defecting from John Edwards.

A Dallas Morning News analysis shows Mr. Obama raised just over $800,000 in January in Texas – more than any other candidate, and nearly three times what Mrs. Clinton got that month.

In the Park Cities ZIP code 75205 – the highest presidential fundraising ZIP code in the state – donors gave about seven times more money to Mr. Obama in January than they did to Mrs. Clinton.

<snip>

Even Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor hanging on to his long-shot bid, brought in $342,000 in Texas in January – also outraising Mrs. Clinton that month in Texas.

22. actually it is more than that
The number for the year now is now 977,525-

this article must be a few days old, because yesterday (last day of Feb), the number was over 1,000,000.
